We just received a little drizzle along with the cold front that came through our area Sunday night. I doubt it was even enough to measure. As we all know, we are desperate for rain. Most of the stock tanks are dry. I suppose the deer can sneak a drink from water troughs, but I wonder about the small animals. There is hardly even any dew.
The holidays are all over so we can get back to our normal routine. Marilyn and Michael Suber and I attended the New Year’s Eve supper last Wednesday night at Elm Grove. We didn’t make it late enough to see the new year in. When we left there were some playing chess, some playing dominos and some just visiting.
We were sorry to hear of the death of Owen Cook of Andrews in an accident last week. He was buried at the Holt Cemetery. He was the grandson of Ernest Gober and the son of Yvonne Cook.
We were also sorry to hear of the passing of Sammie Jeffreys. He was one of the old time cowboys and kept on doing yard work for other folks well into his nineties. Sammie and Annie lived in Richland for several years after he retired from ranch work. His funeral service was held Saturday with burial in the Richland Springs cemetery. We send our sympathy to both of these families.
The last word from Wilma Lee is that she is recovering nicely from the broken hip and was on her way back to the ranch in Elm Grove Saturday. We hope she is still responding to the treatments and we send her our best wishes. Wilma is definitely a real trooper.
I am writing this up Monday night during the breaks in the game between OSU and UT. At halftime OSU is leading 6-3. Hopefully the next half will turn things around.
