Several years ago my wife and I took some young married couples to a marriage retreat and seminar that a good friend of mine was teaching. We had a great time while we were there and at the very end we all stood up and repeated our marriage vows to each other. My wife and I said those vows years ago to each other and we have been faithful to those vows.
When it came time for me to recommit my vow I told my wife, this is not what I originally committed to and I wanted to think about it because it had a lot of fine print in it. I was just kidding her but she took it very seriously. Boy have I paid for not quickly agreeing to repeat those vows.
As we end this year maybe we need to think abut our commitments and especially our commitment to the Lord. Perhaps we have grown lax in our worship attendance, or daily Bible reading, or our prayer life, or quiet time. Possibly our relationship or love for God has grown cold.
A good marriage relationship takes a lot of nurture, tender loving care, time and commitment.
So does our relationship to God. Let us recommit ourselves to the Lord, (Psalms 37:5, 22:8). Proverbs 3:5-12 has some very good guidelines for the New Year. Start the year off right. Be in Church next Sunday.
