This information was submitted by Rex Savage, of Arlington Texas, about a buck he killed in Locker, Texas on November 30th, 2008 - My Grandfather, George B. Savage purchased a 55 acre farm in Locker, Texas in the late 1920’s. My brother, Mike Berkes and I are the current owners of this same farm. We have hunted there for the last 20 years. On November 30th, my brother, his son and I were hunting on our annual “after Thanksgiving hunt.” On Sunday morning, the last hunt of the trip, I was watching a group of does and young bucks at my feeder. I was deciding on which doe to shoot as I did not have a deer yet. I was watching them eat when out came the biggest buck we have ever seen on our small family farm. I could not believe my eyes. This buck had somehow escaped all the other hunters and here he was on our little farm, right in front of me! After fighting off a rather severe case of “Buck Fever” I managed to get a shot off and it found its mark! My brother calls over the radio, “who shot?” I could barely speak .... “ I just shot the biggest buck I have ever killed.” Silence...... then “come back.” I just killed a really big buck, I said. It was not long and we had all gathered around to look at this special deer. Excitement filled the air and joy filled my heart. High Fives all around and lots of photos, too.
