Thursday, December 25, 2008 • Posted December 25, 2008

The San Saba County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday, December 22 at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order followed by Kenley Kroll with the Invocation and eveyone joined in for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Judge Theodosis read an e-mail that Kara Dawson sent to her mother. She will be home here on leave from the Navy in the San Saba area from January 9th to January 20th. She will be invited to the Commissioners meeting on January 12th to commend her for receiving a Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding courage and exceptional fire fighting skills on May 22, 2008 and for battling several fires on board the ship without fear for her own life to save four shipmates.

County Attorney David Williams read the requirements to select members to the Salary Grievance Committee. The Committee will consist of four commissioners, the County Judge (although not allowed to vote) and five members that have served on the Grand Jury. Grand Jury members’ names will be put on individual slips of paper and the Judge will draw five names. The nine member committee will be appointed at the January 12th meeting.

County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins distributed the report of the current payroll including names and hours worked. This report will be updated when new employees are added to the payroll list.

The Commissioners discussed the request that the Division of Rehabilitation Services needs an office in the Courthouse. The request was granted to use Office #205 one day a week.

The proposed revision to San Saba County Commissioner precinct lines was tabled again.

Each commissioner, and Judge Theodosis, gave an opinion about the Burn Ban and after discussion, it was approved to put the Burn Ban on with four votes for and one abstained (Commissioner Ricky Lusty abstained).

The Accounts Payable was approved to be paid.

Marsha Hardy reported that 12 red magnetic signs for the Burn Ban will be ordered for county vehicles.

The Sheriff and County Attorney will be sworn in on January 1, 2009.

The next Commissioners Court date is Monday, January 12th at 9 a.m.

Judge Theodosis adjourned the meeting.

Those in attendance were: County Judge Byron Theodosis; Commissioners Roger McGehee, Kenley Kroll, Ricky Lusty, Otis Judkins; County Clerk Kim Wells; County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins; County Attorney David Williams; County Coordinator Marsha Hardy; Administrative Assistant Cathi Miles; Court Bailiff Mike Edgmon and San Saba News & Star Reporter Alice Smith.
