2009 San Saba County Youth Fair Rules

DATES: JANUARY 15 – JANUARY 16, 2009

WHERE: SAN SABA SENIOR CENTER, SAN SABA, TX.

General Rules for Youth Fair 2009

1. All entries must be ORIGINAL works of the PARTICIPANT from January 19, 2008 to January 16, 2009.

2. All entries will be under the control and guidance of the Youth Fair Committee. This Committee has the right to reclassify any entry if they feel it is in the best interest of the entry. Under NO circumstances will this committee be responsible for damage or loss of entries during the show.

3. Do not label entries. Tags for this purpose will be furnished by the Superintendent of each category.

4. ‘Home Schooled Students’ in San Saba County are encouraged to participate. All participants may enter as many entries in each category as they want. No entry fees will be charged.

5. Age Divisions: Any youth K-12 enrolled in San Saba County Schools are eligible to participate. Age divisions for all categories are as follows: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12th grades.

6. It will be the responsibility of the Exhibitor to inquire at the County Extension Office or the Principal’s of your school for copies of the rules and requirements.

7. It will be the responsibility of the Exhibitor to check in their entry to the San Saba Senior Center between 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2008 and to pick up all entries between 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, January 18, 2008.

All unclaimed entries will be taken care of at the discretion of the Youth Fair Committee.

8. No entries will be received after 5:30 PM on January, 17, 2008. No one will be allowed in the Senior Center until judging is complete. The Senior Center will be open from 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM on the 18th for public viewing. Other public viewing will be Friday, January 18th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

9. Entries will be judged according to standards set by each category Superintendent.

10. AWARDS: Ribbons will be awarded in each class in all categories. First through Fifth Places will receive a ribbon and participation ribbons will be given to those not placing. Final decisions rest with the judges. The overall winner of each category will be presented with a Rosette Ribbon and $10.00. This award is open to all ages, youth K-12th grade.

11. ALL entries should be appropriate for ALL age groups to view. It will be left to the discretion of the appropriate Superintendent to determine if an exhibit is in good taste for public display.

RULES

1. Food items will be judged on the basis of quality, texture, appearance and flavor characteristics of its class.

2. All foods must be covered with clear plastic wrap or something similar.

3. A copy of the recipe should be taped to the top of the food. The Exhibitor’s name should be on the back side of the recipe. The recipe will be used for the cookbook.

4. No foods requiring refrigeration will be accepted.

RULES

1. Overall Winners will be eligible for the State 4-H Photography Contest held at Texas A&M University.

2. Photo must be taken by the youth.

3. No labeling permitted on single photographs or photo groupings. No slides permitted.

4. PHOTO STORY: Consists of three to six photos mounted on poster board/heavy cardboard. Photos should depict a sequence or communicate a message.

5. SINGLE PHOTO: Consists of one 5" x 7" or one 8" x 10" photo mounted on poster board/heavy cardboard the same size as the print.

RULES

1. Try to be sure the ‘Main Idea’ of your poster is easily recognized by others who will view it.

2. You may use any size or color of poster board you wish. Entry MUST be on poster board to qualify for the poster category.

3. A 3D (three dimensional) poster is described as one that has length, width and depth.

1. All works of art will be done strictly by the Exhibitor.

2. The signature on any signed art work will be neatly covered by a blank business size card. Please make sure the signature is the appropriate size.

3. Framing and / or matting will not be considered by the judges – only the work of art.

RULES

1. All items must be a finished project and ready for use.

2. Articles must be entered in the class describing the primary skill used in crafting the article.

Extension Programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin. Auxiliary aids and services will be provided at no extra charge to individuals wishing to attend the program by calling the San Saba County Extension Office at 325-372-5416.
