Christmas on the Square fun for all

The San Saba County Chamber of Commerce held their annual Christmas on the Square event during the weekend of December 13th and 14th. The weekend started on Friday evening, with the judging of business and home decorations. The winner for best business decorations and the recipient of the perpetual trophy for 2008 was City National Bank. The home decorating winners were 1st place ($100) to Owen and Linda Parks, 2nd place ($50) to Mabel Ledbetter and 3rd place ($25) to Keith and Debbie Shahan.

Saturday evening at 6 p.m. the annual Christmas lighted parade began the evening's entertainment with 30 entries. The ribbons were awarded as follows: 1st place went to the San Saba Parks Department, Harlin Barker's 1974 Pontiac "Old Yeller," San Saba Players in Progress (PIPS) and the Christian Motorcycle group. 2nd place ribbons went to Hamrick's Automotive, Little M Ranch Riders (McKinnerney Family), the Maverick Cheer Leaders and the Hill Country Bible Church. 3rd place ribbons went to Salon 111 and the San Saba Boy Scout Troop #55. Entries were awarded in four divisions: Commercial, Individual, Non-Profit, and Other.

Local merchants remained open until 9 p.m. Two local food vendors were on the square and several other folks offered samples and door prizes.

The First United Methodist Church and Kay Lynn Scott's Wildflower group and River Bend performed. Santa and Mrs. Claus spent the evening sharing stories and posing for pictures taken by Tyler Lackey.A Survivor's Golf Tournament at the Golf course was held and on Sunday afternoon Tony Guidroz, the City Economic Development Manager, led a city tour.
