SSISD School Board holds regular meeting

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held December 11th in the Central Administration Office.

President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. followed by the invocation and everyone joined for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

An Audit Report by Kline and Krause of Fredricksburg was outlined by Patrick Kline. The following comments were given during the report: Unqualified clean opinion; books in great shape; balance sheet in good shape showing five month reserve (most are three months); spent less than budgeted for year; funds fully secured.

Three programs were given recognition: Tracey Thomas’ National Honor Society VIP Class; Colene Womack’s College BCIS2 power point presentation; and UIL grades 2-8 performances. The Trustees had a list of the Staff recognitions in their reports, also.

The following is a list of communications from Superintendent Glaze:

A. TAKS Performance Incentive - a monetary reward to qualified teachers.

B. Federal Food Service will have an Audit here on December 18th. Vending machines have been taken out because we were disqualified; students are not allowed to share food they bring from home with another student.

C. Jackie Dyer, Secretary to Superintendent, attended an Election School recently.

D. The Staff is 100% qualified.

E. January 12th Board meeting time change is 7:30 p.m. so it will not interfere with basketball games.

F. The Ford dealership has furnished a car for Driver’s Education in the past; however, they cannot furnish a car this year because of economic conditions. They hope to find a car by the time school opens again in January.

G. There will be the implementation of Time Clock Plus for all non-professional employees.

H. Superintendent Glaze attended a meeting recently regarding Legislative changes.

I. The Christmas Break will begin December 19th (for two weeks) and students will return January 5th.

J. Emergency School Closure Information is listed in The News and also on the school's website.

K. Copies of the Facility Report information was distributed for Trustees to review. A copy will be placed in the school library.

The following Consent Agenda was approved by Trustees:

1. November 20th minutes

2. Amendments to 2008-09 budget

3. Allow and pay bills

4. Financial Report

5.One student moved to the Richland Springs ISD area and requested to stay at SSISD.

Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart distributed the January calendar that listed the testing schedule.

High School Principal Mr. Pannell reported a 209 enrollment at this time. A new lighting system has been installed for the stage; students attend a Rotary meeting once a month; UIL program is having pep rallies once a week; exams on Wednesday conflict with games the night before because students do not have time to study; do not have anyone qualified for the Regional Band this year; planning for an event with Brownwood Band; Band Concert will be held Thursday evening, December 12th, at First Baptist Church in San Saba. Girls District basketball games will be the week of December 22nd. The December issue of the Hardshell Press was distributed that featured Bobby Pairett, Mr. Football and Leanne Perry as Football Sweetheart on the front page along with Shelby Hardy Signing with Sam Houston State University.

Elementary Principal Mr. Tabor reported an enrollment of 284 with four additional students expected next week. Many students worked hard to compete in the UIL Competition in Coleman. Three students placed 1st; two students 3rd; two students 4th; four students 5th and one student 6th. The Young Dillo News was distributed that included pictures, schedule of events and the following articles: U.I.L. Competition By Wyatt Deans; Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser By Lexie Hayes; Thanksgiving By Kassidy Ellis; A Trip to the Bob Bullock Museum By Daniel Rosales; Veteran’s Day By Jenna Steger and The Presidential Election/G.T. Presentation By Raley Kirk.

Middle School Principal Mr. Underwood reported a 97.42% average attendance for the 217 enrollment. He read the names of the students who placed in the UIL Competition in Coleman. The Band will participate at Brady on Saturday in Competition.

Athletic Director Johnson reported on the Basketball season. At the present time the standings are: Varsity Boys 4-9; J V Boys 5-6; Varsity Girls 16-0; JV Girls 6-2; 8th Boys 5-2; 8th Boys B 2-0; 8th Girls 5-2; 7th Boys 4-3; 7th Girls 3-4; 7th Girls B 1-5. Johnson named the 10 football players that earned the honor of All-District. Coaches Easterwood and Pannell have the Powerlifting program going good.

The following New Business was discussed and action taken:

a. The first reading of the Policy Update 84 affecting local policies, a 300+ page report, was distributed.

b. Jackie Dyer prepared the 2007-08 Performance Report that included: AEIS, FIRST, Dangerous and Harmful Incidents; Annual Review of Investments, PBMAS, AMAO.

c. Approved Cooperative Purchasing Agreement with ESC XV.

d. SSISD will host Board Training regarding school finances. The January meeting has not been set; the date for February will be Wednesday, February 25th in the school library.

President Barker adjourned the meeting. After a short break, the Board went into Executive Session.
