Emitt Loyd Byrd

Emitt Loyd Byrd passed away December 7, 2008 in San Saba, Texas where he was a lifelong resident. He was born January 10, 1924 to Lloyd and Jolly Moore Byrd. Emitt Loyd graduated from San Saba High School and attended Texas A&M College before enlisting in the Navy and serving until the end of World War II. He married Marjorie Nan House on September 22, 1946. She preceded him in death after sixty-two years of marriage. Emitt Loyd is survived by two sons; James Lloyd and wife Zana of Brownwood; John and Jimma Byrd of Sloan Community; one sister, Loy Nell Behrens and husband Tommy; three grandchildren; Lori and Bob Overton; Kristi Byrd, and James Byrd., and one great- grandchild Zoe Overton.

Emitt Loyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was civically active. He was a member of the school board, city council, volunteer fire department, and a Mason. Emitt Loyd was a founding member of the San Saba Municipal Golf Association and enjoyed many rounds with his friends in the early days of the club. He was a third generation pecan buyer and orchardist. Emitt Loyd bought pecans in Louisiana and later Cameron, Texas where he did business for over thirty years.

Emitt Loyd was a people person and made many friends through out his long life. His fondest memories included buying pecans and the people he was associated with in that business. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were held at Howell Doran Funeral Home in San Saba on December 9, 2008 at 10 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the San Saba County EMS.
