County law enforcement organizations presented 911 programs to the Cherokee, Richland Springs and San Saba Elementary Schools on December 17, 18 and 19. The programs were offered to over 200 students through cooperation between the Central Texas Council of Governments, San Saba Police Department and San Saba Sheriff’s Office. Shown conducting the program in the photographs are 911 dispatchers Becky Starr and Mary Terry plus San Saba Police Officer Allen Brown and San Saba Sheriff Deputy Harold Yates. Mary Terry’s daughter, Ember, entertained the children in a 911 Reddy Fox costume. Reddy Fox is the nationwide mascot figure for 911 programs used to teach children how to be ready and quick as a fox to summon help in an emergency.

The programs informed students when to call 911 for crime, fire or medical emergencies. It also educated students in how to place emergency phone calls and what information they would need to provide dispatchers. Elementary teachers were presented with classroom educational materials and The Central Texas Council of Government provided take home materials for each student.
