Elva Lenora Slaughter

Elva Lenora Slaughter, 65, of Midland went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2008.

The family received friends at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland on Sunday, November 30, 2008 between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. Graveside services were held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas.

Elva was born to Edgar and Wilma Light of Cherokee, TX. on October 16, 1943. Elva attended Cherokee High School where she was a cheerleader and member of the basketball team. Elva married Jerry Slaughter on April 8, 1960, and graduated from Llano High School in 1961.

Elva is survived by her husband, Jerry Slaughter of Midland; four daughters, Vickie Ripley and husband Tony of Maypearl; Pam Cunningham of Tyler; Tanya Alexander and husband Gene of Aledo; Kristi Latimer and husband Larry of Lamesa; twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Elva was a faithful member and devoted servant of the North 14th Street Church of Christ in Lamesa, and Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland. She lived by her spiritual beliefs, was a woman of great integrity, and taught her children to know the Lord. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed being with her family. Hobbies included coin collecting, stamp collecting, and watching movies. She was very gifted at designing floral arrangements. She worked for many years as a floral designer, ran an in-home day care, was a sales clerk at Anthony’s, and worked in food service for Lamesa ISD. Her life’s work was being a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother.

She will be greatly missed. We love you, Mom.
