On the completion of what was an incredible girls basketball tournament, I think it is important to note the importance of such events to our community. When the school hosts events such as UIL academic contests as we have in recent years, played host to 10 or more schools in high school or junior high track meets or the recent basketball tournament when 20 plus teams roll in to San Saba bringing many of parents, grandparents, and the general fan base to our city, the school’s impact on the local economy can be felt.

The recent basketball tournament provided an opportunity for additional out of town citizens to shop in the stores downtown and patrons to eat in the restaurants. We even had two teams spend nights in the local lodging. Additionally, it is easy to measure the buying power the school brings to the community. Have you ever considered that if the school employs 130 and if each one of the employees spend $10 a day in one of the local restaurants or at the grocery store, then over a period of a year, the buying power of the school employee on the local economy is great. Additionally, whenever possible, the ISD purchases locally. Not everything the school needs to purchase can be bought locally, but whenever possible, we consider the local vendor first. Thanks for supporting the school and we make every effort to support the local economy as well.

School will dismiss to observe the Thanksgiving Holiday on Tuesday afternoon at 3:37 p.m. through Friday, November 28th. School will be in regular session beginning on Monday, December 1st.
