Lady Dillo Basketball Report

The San Saba Lady Dillos opened their season up in grand fashion as they downed the Marble Falls Lady Flames and the Winters Lady Blizzards. The Faith score was 73-35 and the Winters score was 64-28.

In the Marble Falls Faith game we came out with a great deal of intensity and really shot the ball well. We were 13 of 38 from the three point line and we really hurt their zone. I knew we would hurt their zone if we hit some shots early because the way they were playing us, is a tough way to defend our zone offense.

Shelby Hardy had a big night as she hit 7 threes and scored 25 points in the game and Calea Turner added 4 threes and 14 points as well. Tarah Crosby had 7 assists and Calea Turner added 6.

In the theft department Turner lead us with 6 steals. Haylee Oliver had a big night as she tallied 10 boards and Katy Davis added 8. Of course this is a different team than the one we faced in the finals of our tourney last year as the Flames have graduated a big portion of their team but still it was a sweet win.

In the Winters game we once again jumped on our opponent real quick and had the visitors down 17-2 at the end of the first quarter. We had a big lead at half but got a bit sloppy with the ball and had 15 turnovers for the night.

Katy Davis had a big night on her 18th birthday as she tallied 18 points, Shelby Hardy added 16 points and Haylee Oliver chipped in 12 points also.

Oliver and Turner both had 4 steals each and Katy Davis added 5 assists. Haylee Oliver had another big night on the glass as she recorded 7 rebounds.

When this article comes out we will have played McGregor in Bulldog Land. They are preseason ranked #8 in the state and are lead by preseason all state candidate Sha Brown who is a load at 6’4". Hopefully we had a good outcome and will have come home with a victory.

This Thursday the Lady Dillo Tournament will kick off with games in both of our gyms. The varsity division will have 16 teams and the JV will have 5 due to Johnson City having to drop their JV because of injuries and grades.

The Varsity division will have some really good teams. Look for San Saba, Early, Liberty Hill, Goldthwaite, Burnet, Hamilton, and Gatesville as favorites to take home the championship title. This week is a hoop lovers dream as there will be three days of wall to wall basketball. Be sure to come out and support the Varsity and Junior Varsity Lady Dillo teams plus the Dillo teams as well when we start playing together.

Our Junior Varsity girls ended up the week 1-1 also. They downed Florence to open the season 32-22. Samantha Henry had a huge night scoring 18 points. Silvia Jimenez and Paige Chambers and Ashley Pulatie played great defense to help the JV get their first win of the year.

In our second game we had way too many turnovers and were downed 21-19 by the Winters Blizzards. We were up two at halftime but couldn’t hold on. We did have a chance at the end of the game to tie it but we missed two chip shots and suffered our first loss of the year.
