Indians Fall Short in Playoff Bid

The Cherokee Indians saw their hopes for a playoff bid vanish as the Panther Creek Panthers outlasted them last Friday night. PC was able to keep fresh legs on the field and wore the Indians down in the 4th quarter. The Indians finished the season with a 6-4 record.

The Indians scored first on a 50 yard run by Tucker Corsi. Dillon Epperson kicked the PAT to put the Indians up 8-0. PC scored their first TD on a 5 yard run and kicked the PAT to tie the score.

Nieves Solis got away from the Panthers and scored on a 70 yard TD run. Epperson added the PAT. With 1:38 remaining in the 1st quarter, PC scored on a 30 yard pass play. The PAT failed. Cherokee led 16-14.

Corsi scored the only TD of the 2nd quarter on a 15 yard run. Epperson’s kick was good. The Indians led 24-14. PC fumbled the ball away on their next possession but the Indians failed to convert the turnover into points.

The Indians fumbled away their first possession of the 3rd quarter. This led to a 20 yard TD run by PC. The PAT failed. The Indians’ lead was cut to 24-20. The Panthers scored again with 2:26 remaining in the quarter on a 17 yard run. The PAT was good and the Panthers led 24-28.

As the 4th quarter started, the Indians regained the lead on a 15 yard pass play from Hector Jimenez to Duncan Roberts. Epperson added the PAT to put the Indians up 32-28. That was it for the Indians who saw PC score 3 unanswered touchdowns on runs of 40, 25, and 4 yards. 2 of their PATs were good, making the final score 32-50.
