8th Dillos defeat Coleman Bluecats 20-14

San Saba 8th Grade Dillos finished off the 2008 season with a 20-14 win over the Coleman 8th Grade Bluecats in Coleman. The win finished off the season with 6 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie. The 8th Dillos fell short of the District Title by 1 point with last weeks 7-6 loss to Comanche. This team won only 2 games last year and they worked hard all year to get things turned around. They are a fine group of young men.

Coleman kicked to San Saba to start the game. Michael McKinnerney returned the kick 40 yards to give San Saba good field position. Sean Argote ran for 1 yard, 12 yards and finished things off with a 25 yard touchdown run. Good blocking by J.T. Mathis, Trevor Tinney, Michael McKinnerney, Ryan Guidroz, Russell Lowe, Aaron Perez, Kolton Haverland, Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, and Diego Montoya sealed the deal. The PAT failed 6-0 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Coleman. Argote had a solo tackle. Argote, Lowe, and Juan Ortega teamed up for another tackle. Garrett Hartranft, Michael McKinnerney, and Ryan Guidroz paired up for another tackle. Diego Montoya had a big hit. Diego Lara, Michael McKinnerney, Sean Argote, and Diego Montoya played good defense. Coleman's quarterback got loose on a 10 yard touchdown run. Argote, McKinnerney, and Dusty Parum stopped the PAT. 6-6 as the first quarter ended.

Russell Lowe received the kickoff and returned it 14 yards. Argote ran for 3, 25, Lowe 12, Argote 1. The drive was stopped by a penalty. Lowe punted for San Saba. Guidroz and Hartranft covered the punt well. Montoya and Parum played good defense. Diego Lara had a good tackle. Garrett Hartranft added still another good tackle. Russell Lowe another. Lara played good pass defense.

The Coleman quarterback got loose for 10. The Bluecat fullback scored from 10 yards out. The pass for the PAT was good. 14-6 Coleman. Coleman kicked to San Saba. Juan Ortega had a 12 yard return. Russell Lowe took a hand off from J.T. Mathis, picked up blocks from Corey Snider, Kolton Haverland, Nathan Amstead, and Diego Montoya en route to a 65 yard touchdown by run. Ryan Guidroz ran in the extra points, 14-14. San Saba kicked to Coleman. There was a questionable penalty. Argote sacked the Coleman quarterback for a loss. Good pass defense by J.T. Mathis, Diego Lara, Garrett Hartranft, and Juan Ortega. Ryan Guidroz added good defensive play. San Saba stopped Coleman and the offense got the ball. A pass fell incomplete. Russell Lowe ran for 3 yards, Mathis added 10 on a scramble for a first down. Argote ran for 10 on a saving pass. The drive and the half ended with an interception. 14-14.

San Saba pooch kicked to Coleman to start the 2nd half. Joe Lindsey fell on the ball for San Saba. Argote ran for 5, 3, Lowe 10, Argote 3, Guidroz 1, Argote 14, 3, 4, 8, 1, Guidroz 10, Argote 5, and then 2 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed. 20-14 Dillos. Good blocks by J.T. Mathis, Trevor Tinney, Corey Snider, Josh Robinson, Isaac Zepeda, Joe Lindsey, Aaron Rixse, and Juan Ortega helped control the drive. San Saba kicked to Coleman as the 4th quarter began. Montoya, Lowe, and Russton Ellis had tackles. Ryan Guidroz added another, Diego Lara, Dusty Parum and Juan Ortega added yet another. Luis Vega, Dusty Parum, Diego Montoya and Russell Lowe more good defense. Coleman fumble on the 4th down. They fell on it but gave over the ball on downs. Argote ran for 16, 4, Lowe 1, Argote 2. The Dillos came up short and punted. Russell Lowe kicked a 42 yard beauty killed by McKinnerney at the Coleman 8 yard line. Lowe good defense, Parum, Vega, and Montoya added more. Sean Argote sacked the quarterback for a loss on 4th down. The Dillos got the ball. Argote ran for 5, 2, 7. 1st and goal from the 2 with 30 seconds left, the Dillos knelt the ball for the win. What a great season. Argote 23 carries, 152 yards, 6.6 average. Lowe 5 carries, 91 yards, 18.2 average. Guidroz 3 for 14 yards, 4.6 average. Mathis 1 for 10 yards. Argote had over 1,000 yards rushing this year.
