A former San Saba resident has been promoted to associate director for Texas Tech University’s Department of Student Media in Lubbock.
Sheri Westerfeld Lewis assumed her new title on Sept. 1, moving up from the position of assistant director. As associate director, Lewis is charged with aiding in the operation of Student Media, which oversees the student newspaper, The Daily Toreador; the yearbook, La Ventana; and the 35,000-watt student-run radio station, KTXT-FM. Her specific responsibilities include working with students in radio broadcasting, newspaper production and online content (www.dailytoreador.com).
Lewis began her employment with Student Media, which operates under Tech’s Division of Student Affairs, as a part-time adviser in September 1998.
A 1979 graduate of San Saba High, Lewis served two stints as editor of The San Saba News and Star before working as a reporter, photographer and editor for the Brownwood Bulletin for several years. She also has worked for other Texas newspapers and continues to handle freelance assignments for various publications. Lewis resides in Lubbock with her sons, Blake, a Tech student, and Tye, a sixth-grade student at Cooper Middle School. She is the daughter of former San Saba residents Richard and Janis Westerfeld of Lubbock.
