Maxine Davis

Maxine Davis, age 89, of San Saba, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 28, 2008 in San Saba. She was born February 24, 1919 in San Saba County, the daughter of E.C. (Buddy) Smith and Flora Judkins Smith. On April 23, 1938, Maxine Smith married Joe Davis in San Saba County where they celebrated 54 years together. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1992.

Maxine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a housewife and a member of The Full Gospel Church. She served as Secretary/Treasure for the China Creek Cemetery for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn Jo Plumley and her husband Sammy of Junction Tx. and Wanda Fae Gibson and her husband Douglas of Richland Springs, Tx. Five grandchildren: Cody Allen Plumley and wife Misty of Junction; Carter Samuel Plumley and wife Melody of Uvalde, Tx.; Joseph Reed Gibson and wife Melanie of Florence, Tx.; Paul Douglas Gibson and wife Jessica of San Saba, Tx.; Julie Rebecca Gossage and husband Tony of Keller, Tx. Great-Grandchildren: Asa Allen Plumley, Parker Lee Plumley, Ian Davis Plumley, Baylee Jo Plumley, Dawson James Gibson, Savannah Jo Gibson, and Shelby Rebecca Gossage. One sister: Walter Bob Casbeer and husband Jackie of San Saba; sister-in-laws Ruth Smith of San Angelo, Tx.; Betty Jo Samberson and husband J.L. of Dallas, Georgia; sister-in-law Quincy Wells and husband James of Priddy, Tx, brother-in-laws Garland Davis and wife Janell of Lubbock, Tx.; Jack Paxton and wife Bernice of Shreveport, Louisiana. Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John Sorrell Smith, sister-in-law Billi Jean Paxton, and brother-in-law Reed Davis.

Graveside services were held Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the China Creek Cemetery, with the Rev Stephen Baker officiating. Family received friends Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba.

The family requests the memorials be made to the China Creek Cemetery or the San Saba County Volunteer EMS.

Funeral Services were under the direction of Howell-Doran Funeral Home.
