Pecan Food Show set for December 5th
Thursday, November 13, 2008 • Posted November 13, 2008

The 2008 Pecan Food show will be Friday morning, Dec 5th at the San Saba County courthouse

This year, the Grand Champion in each division; Club, Non Club, and Youth will take home $100.00. The Reserve Champions will receive $50.00. There will also be a prize for the first place winner in each category.

The entry categories include cakes, candy, cookies, fancy nuts, pies, breads, appetizers and sugar free. Recipes beginning with mixes are welcomed. The judges are interested in taste, originality, texture, attractiveness and, of course, the use of pecans.

The registration time, 7:30 – 9:00 a.m., it is early so you can bring your entries to the east side of the courthouse on your way to work or school.

The annual Pecan Food Show has been a San Saba county tradition since 1956. Sponsored by the San Saba Extension Education Clubs in co-operation with the City of San Saba, the competition is open to all men, women and youth residing in the county.

The Champion and Reserve Champion of each division, Club, Non-Club, and Youth entries are sold to the businesses that help support this event each year. All other items will be available for sale. The sale items can be spoken for but all entries remain on display at the courthouse through the lunch hour.

Besides awards, the names of the Champions and Reserve Champions will join those of the past 52 years and appear in San Saba County Champion Pecan Food Show Recipes 2009 Edition. Sharing your recipe is optional. The 2008 edition containing the pictures and recipes of the 2007 winners is now available at the extension office.

If you would like to enter this year’s show, rules are available at the Extension Office in the Courthouse. They are also at the county extension website. http://sansaba-co.tamu.edu/ under publications. The rules will also be in next week’s San Saba News.
