As you so well noted in your news article, October 2, 2008 our "impromptu" SSHS 1950 class reunion was a huge success and confirmed once again the abiding affection we have for our hometown and its hospitality. Twenty-two class members enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ma & Pa's Diner and the special fellowship of enduring friendship. After lunch, the day was made even more enjoyable by our tour of the San Saba Historical Museum located at beautiful Mill Pond Park. Mrs. Jack Miller, Museum Director, had made the arrangements for our visit and we received a gracious welcome. Our guides included Lynn Blankenship, Secretary and Reporter for the Museum, Jerry Blankenship, Museum Trustee, Vicky Stevenson, Museum Curator, and Paula Barrier, Museum Curator. They showed us around the museum exhibits and patiently answered our questions. Of especial interest to our group was the exhibit which honors our beloved teacher, Miss Helen Lidstone. (The picture that accompanied the news article was taken in front of this exhibit and added a visual impact to the article.) We really appreciated the fine work that was done on Miss Helen's exhibit by Paula Barrier and also by David Williams. As we looked at the other exhibits, we were pleased to recognize some of our own heroes, like Dean Bagley, T.J. Stewart, "Tid" Watkins, and Jane Felts Mauldin. There is so much to see in the museum that we will have to come back another day to see more of the outstanding exhibits. The San Saba Historical Museum is a treasure!
We really had a great time! Thank you again for the excellent news coverage for our impromptu reunion. We always look forward to returning to San Saba and the friendly welcome that always awaits us. Our next scheduled visit will be June 6, 2009!
In the news article of October 2nd, the name of Joyce Ballew, wife of Elvis Joe Ballew, was inadvertently omitted from the list of attendees. Joyce was present and part of the enjoyable day!
