8th Dillos brand Early Longhorns, 14-12

San Saba's 8th Grade Dillos won a close battle with the Early 8th Grade Longhorns in Early last Thursday night. The game came down to the last seconds to secure the victory, 14-12.

Early kicked to San Saba to start the game. Sean Argote returned the kick to the 35 yard line. The Dillo line made up of Michael McKinnerney, Joe Lindsey, Aaron Perez, Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, Diego Montoya, and blocking backs Ryan Guidroz, Russell Lowe, and J.T. Mathis began a great drive. Sean Argote ran for 5, 5, 7, 7, 15, 9, 4, 2, 11, 6, and then a 5 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed. 6-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Early. Russell Lowe did a "pooch" kick that was caught after 10 yards by J.T. Mathis to give the Dillos the football. 2nd quarter, the offense went to work again. Receivers did a good job of blocking. Trevor Tinney, Corey Snider, Garrett Hartranft, Josh Robinson, Luis Vega, Diego Lara, Isaac Zepeda and Juan Ortega did a great job. The line blocked the Early defense well. Argote ran for 5, 6, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 3, and added a 1 yard touchdown. Following Ryan Guidroz, Russell Lowe and J.T. Mathis up in the line for the touchdown. Ryan Guidroz took a handoff from Argote and raced in for what proved to be the game winning PAT. He was sprung by a great block by Isaac Zepeda. 14-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Early. The Dillo defense played well. Dusty Parum had a behind the line tackle. A reverse was stopped by Garrett Hartranft, Luis Vega, Ryan Guidroz, and Michael McKinnerney. The Horns were forced to punt.

Argote ran for 1 and then 10 yards as the half ended, 14-0 Dillos. Russell Lowe kicked to Early to start the 3rd quarter. Diego Lara caused a fumble but Early recovered. The Dillo defense gave a little on a couple of Early passes.

Good Defensive was played by J.T. Mathis, Trevor Tinney, Michael McKinnerney, Garrett Hartranft, Luis Vega, Ryan Guidroz, Diego Lara. Sean Argote, Isaac Zepeda, Juan Ortega, Russell Lowe, Diego Montoya and Dusty Parum slowed the Horn attack. Diego Montoya caused an Early fumble pounced on by Luis Vega. The Dillo offense took over.

Argote ran for 3, 8, 11, 4, and 3 yards but the Dillos came up short on 3rd down and punted for the first time. Early began a drive. They passed for 2 first downs and broke a 40 yard touchdown run. The PAT was stopped by Garrett Hartranft, 14-6 Dillos.

Early kicked to San Saba. Argote ran for 14, 3, 5, and then was injured. Russell Lowe moved to tailback and Hartranft to fullback. Lowe had runs of 6, 10, 8, 4, 5, and 2. The Dillos drove the ball to the Early 30 yard line. On 4th and 1 J.T. Mathis snuck for an apparent first down. He was a foot or two past the down marker but the refs gave Early the ball. Coach Schulze insisted on a measurement but the refs refused and Early took over. With 1;30 left in the game, Early proceeded to sweep the Dillo defense and they scored with 38 seconds left. The PAT failed as the Horn quarterback was tripped up on a sprint out pass. 14-12 Dillos.

The Horns tried an onside kick but J.T. Mathis got on it for the Dillos. The Dillos killed the clock for the victory. The Dillo Special teams with players like Aaron Rixse, Juan Carlos Garcia, Isaac Zepeda, J.T. Mathis, Russell Lowe, Sean Argote, Garrett Hartranft, Joe Lindsey, and Trevor Tinney played a huge part in the victory. The offensive line probably had their best game against a big strong Early defense. This team played a really great game.

The 8th Dillos travel to Junction this Thursday Night. Sean Argote had 35 carries for 195 yards for a 5.6 yard per carry average. Russell Lowe carried 6 times for 35 yards and a 5.8 yard per carry average.
