Coyotes steer clear of Robert Lee
Thursday, October 23, 2008 • Posted October 23, 2008

The #4 state ranked Richland Springs Coyotes improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in District 9 play by defeating the Robert Lee Steers by a score of 56-6. It was a great night for the Coyotes as they looked very good on both sides of the ball.

The offensive was explosive as ever. Abrahan Ahumada completed his first TD toss of the year to Andrew Fowler from 30 yards out. Haustin Burkhart was involed in 6 TD's for the Coyotes. He tossed his first to Tommy Hollon from 35 yards away and then reeled off 4 straight to Nigel Bates.

The four Burkhart/Bates touchdown pass connections were from 6, 9, 38, and 39 yards out. Andrew Fowler and Haustin Burkhart each added Coyote rushing TD's late in the game.

The Coyote defense had a great night. They forced three fumbles, one interception, and held the Steers on downs three different times. Randy Couch was 4 of 7 on his PAT kicks. The Coyotes will now prepare for the Rochelle Hornets this Friday night.

The #58 state ranked Hornets are currently 1-6 on the year and 0-2 in district play. Their only win came in Week 4 against a bad Lohn Eagle team.

Rochelle has lost to Zephyr, May, Blanket, Panther Creek, Robert Lee, and Veribest. The Rochelle Hornets have just plain ran into bad luck in this 2008 season. They have been crippled with a hand full of injuries and their overall team numbers are down. Last report I got was they were down to just seven or eight kids on the team. OUCH!

Look for the Hornets to come out and give their best against a very good and talented Coyote team. But, just because the Coyotes are a heavy favorite in this one, I can assure you the Coyote coaches will prepare our kids for a battle! Let's keep the stands full each and every week! Remember the game can be heard on KBAL 106.1 FM or www.kbalfm.com . GO COYOTES GO!
