The Brady Bulldogs came to town last Thursday night looking for a win. The 7th grade Dillos weren't having any of that.
The Bulldogs kicked off to start the game. Kelan Verette fielded the kick and returned it 18 yards. The Dillos started their drive just short of midfield. Geryn Young made runs of 5, 3, and 1 yards to bring up the 4th down. Kelan Verette ran a QB sneak up the middle for 15 yards. Jordan Watson took a pitch and ran it 22 yards down to the 5 yard line. Young punched it in from 5 yards. The two point try was no good. 6-0 Dillos.
Oscar Villa kicked off for the Dillos. A swarm of Dillos made the tackle on the kickoff. Jordan Watson made a huge hit on the 1st down to push the Bulldogs back. On the second down Kolton Ellis stripped the ball from a Brady running back and recovered a fumble.
The Dillos weren't able to capitalize on the turnover and were forced to punt.
Brady took over with good field position. Kristian McCoury, Ruben Aguirre, Oscar Villa and Jordan Watson made key tackles to bring up the 3rd down. Brady's QB ran around the left end for 60 yards and the TD. The two point try was good. 8-6 Brady.
Jordan Watson fielded the Brady kick and returned it 16 yards. Kelan Verette made a run of 11 yards on the 1st down. Kelan Verette hooked up with Jordan Watson for a 50 yard TD pass. This pass was possible because of the blocking of Gunner Hibler, Wesley Gates, Brian Rogers, Oscar Villa and Kristian McCoury. The two point try was no good. 12-8 Dillos.
The Dillos kicked off to the Bulldogs and Oscar Villa made the tackle. Brady didn't have the ball long. Oscar Villa and Dallas Caldwell both made tackles for a loss. When Brady tried to pass on the third down, Geryn Young was there to provide good coverage. Brady was forced to punt. Kelan Verette fielded the ball and proceeded to return it 55 yards for a touchdown. Daniel Calderon and Brian Rogers made huge hits to spring Verette for the TD. Verette punched in the two point try. 20-8 Dillos.
Brady took over with 1 minute left in the first half. Dallas Caldwell, Daniel Calderon, Kelan Verette and Cosme Diaz made tackles for a loss. Oscar Villa came up with a huge sack to take the game to halftime. 20-8 Dillos at the half.
The Dillos kicked off to start the 2nd half. The Dillos put together an impressive defensive stand. Jordan Watson, Brian Rogers and Daniel Calderon made tackles for a loss. Cosme Diaz, Dallas Caldwell and Ruben Aguirre made great open field tackles. Oscar Villa made a huge sack to bring up the 4th down.
Aguirre, Villa and Rogers put pressure on the QB to force a bad throw and give the Dillos the ball.
Kelan Verette made runs of 10 and 14 yards and Geryn Young made runs of 14 and 15 yards on the Dillos next possession. Kolton Ellis took a handoff up the middle 15 yards for a TD. Ashton Krueger and Jordan Watson made key blocks on the drive. The two point try was no good. 26-8 Dillos.
Brady fielded the kickoff and made a good return into Dillo territory. Dillo defense held tough. Brian Rogers, Ismael Ramirez, Dustin Sloan, Ruben Aguirre and Oscar Villa made tackles for a loss. Cosme Diaz had good coverage on the 4th down.
The Dillos took over on their own end of the field. Verette, Ellis and Young all made runs of 7 yards on the drive. This was behind the blocking of Brandon Amstead, Asa Harbour and Ashton Krueger. The drive stalled out after these runs.
Brady gave it one last shot to try and score. Ryan Salinas, Dustin Sloan, Jordan Watson and Ashton Krueger put pressure on the QB with T.J. Hibler and Kelan Verette providing good coverage. Dustin Sloan and Jordan Watson made a tackle for a loss to end the ballgame. 26-8 Dillos win!
The 7th grade Dillos travel to Early this Thursday to battle the Longhorns.
