Roy Sellman

Roy Sellman, 86, of Cherokee, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 09, 2007 at his residence in Cherokee. Roy was born March 21, 1921 in Rochelle, Texas to Charles Sellman and Vannie Long Sellman. Roy served in World War II with the US Navy and was a member of the Shore Patrol. While serving in the Navy he was awarded the merit award for inventions and two Purple Hearts. After Pearl Harbor he went to California and worked as a carpenter and instructor with the construction of RV”s. Roy was also past commander of the Hollywood Post 939 VFW. On April 30, 1988 Roy Sellman and La Voyce Nichols were married in San Angelo, Texas, later moving to Cherokee where they spent most of their married life.

Roy is survived by his wife Mrs. Roy (La Voyce) Sellman of Cherokee, Texas, one son Glen Weldon and wife Martha of Aba Daba, Saudia Arbia. Four grandchildren, David Weldon and his wife Karren of Colorado Springs CO; Christina Drown and her husband Shawn of Fort Worth, Texas; Elizabeth Jane Chastin and husband Dave, Fort Worth, Texas and Aaron Weldon of Fort Worth, Texas. Three great-grandchildren; Caleb Drown, Joseph Alexander Weldon, and Jacob Chastin all of Fort Worth, TX. Two brothers, Bill Sellman and his wife Maudie of Cherokee, Texas; Richard (Dickey) Sellman and his wife Ida of Fredericksburg, Texas. Four sisters: Lula May Burton and husband Ray of Ohio; Sue Wyres of New Braunfels, Texas; Callie McMurry of New Braunfels, Texas and Sarah Sessom of Texarkana, Texas, Several cousins, nieces and nephews and one special nephew Chuck Sellman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas with Doug Suggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Rochelle cemetery in Rochelle, Texas.

Family requests that memorials be made to the Cherokee Children’s Home or the disabled American Veterans.
