7th grade Dillos handed their 1st loss of the year

Last Thursday, the 7th grade Dillos traveled to Bangs to play the 7th grade Dragons. It was a tough night for the Dillos who lost for the first time this year by a score of 28-6.

The Dillos got the ball to start the game. The offensive drive got started with the Dillos trying to air it out on the Dragons. However, Kelan Verette and Jordan Watson couldn't quite hook up on this drive. The Dillos were forced to punt.

The Dragons started on their own 25-yard line. The Dillo defense were holding their own with great plays by Jordan Watson, Kelan Verette, Kolton Ellis, Kristian McCoury, and Daniel Calderon. However, on a 3rd and 5, the Dragons ran a sweep around the right side and scored on a 35-yard run. The Dillos stuffed the 2-point conversion - 6-0, Bangs.

Sacks and penalties killed the next drive for the Dillos. The Dillos were forced to punt. Bangs took over with good field position and capitalized very quickly. The Dragons QB ran around the left end and scored from 14 yards out. The 2-point try was good - 14-0, Bangs.

The next Dillo offensive drive got off to a better start. Kelan Verette was able to make runs of 7 and 14 yards and Geryn Young was able to run up the middle for 5. This was behind the blocking of Oscar Villa, Brian Rogers, Wesley Gates, Kristian McCoury, Dustin Sloan and Verette completed a 15-yard pass to Watson to give the Dillos a 1st down. Verette was hit hard next play and threw an interception.

The Dragons came out and tried to run a reverse but Ruben Aguirre stuffed it for a 4-yard loss. Kelan Verette picked off the 2nd down pass and returned it for 22 yards. The Dillos tried 1 pass to the endzone but it fell incomplete - 14-0, Bangs at the half.

The Dillos kicked off to start the 2nd half. The Dillo defense tried to hold it together with tackles by Geryn Young, Kolton Ellis, Brian Rogers, Dallas Caldwell and Jordan Watson. However, Bangs' QB was able to get free and run for a TD. The 2-point try was good - 22-0, Bangs.

The Dillos couldn't get the ground game going the next series, but Verette and Watson were able to hook up for a 31-yard pass. Two sacks stopped the Dillos and they were forced to punt.

The next Bangs' possession lasted only 3 plays. The Dragons' running back broke a few tackles and was able to get into the endzone. The 2-point try was no good - 28-0, Bangs.

On the 1st play of the next series, Verette connected with Dallas Caldwell for a 56-yard TD pass. The 2-point try was no good - 28-6, Bangs. The Dragons took over with 2 minutes left. Ashton Krueger, Ryan Salinas, Brandon Amstead, Ruben Aguirre and T.J. Hibler were playing tough defense when the final buzzer sounded - 28-6, Bangs - was the final score.

The Dillos return home this week to face the Brady Bulldogs in their 3rd District ball game of the season.
