Indians Outlast Bulldogs

After a 2 hour lightning delay, the Indians and Mullin Bulldogs finally got to play at 9:31 pm. The delay took the edge off the Indians as their initial possession ended with an interception followed by a 40 yard TD run by the Bulldogs. After adding the PAT, Mullin was up 0-8. The Indians got their first touchdown as Jesse Perez found his way into the endzone from 9 yards out and Dillon Epperson added the PAT to tie the score at 8-8.

In the 2nd quarter, Perez pounded his way into the endzone from 2 yards out and Epperson added another PAT to give the Indians a 16-8 lead, which they would never relinquish. Hector Jimenez scored next for the Indians on a 22 yard scamper. Epperson made it 3 in a row and the Indians led 24-8. Mullin scored next on an 18 yard run but missed the PAT. The Indians next touchdown came as Perez scored from the 1 foot line. Epperson’s kick was good and the Indians extended their lead to 32-14. Perez scored his 4th touchdown of the half on a 15 yard run. The PAT failed. With :09 remaining in the half, Mullin scored on a 42 yard pass play. The PAT failed. The Indians led 38-20 at the half.

There was no scoring in the 3rd quarter, but Nieves Solis intercepted a Bulldog pass. The Indians had 1 turnover on a lost fumble.

Duncan Roberts started the 4th quarter with an interception which led to a 1 yard TD run by Perez, his fifth of the night. The PAT failed. The Indian’s next score was on defense as Tucker Corsi stripped the ball from the Bulldog quarterback and Roberts recovered it in the endzone. Epperson added the PAT to put the Indians up 52-20. Mullin’s next touchdown came on a 55 yard pass play with 6:33 remaining in the game. Perez blocked the PAT. The Indians’ next possession ended with a lost fumble. Mullin scored the last touchdown of the game on a 6 yard run and added the PAT. The final score was 52-34, Indians.

The Indians finished pre-district with a 3-2 record. They will begin district play this Friday at home against the Brookesmith Mustangs. Kickoff is 7:30.
