The Dublin Lions came to town last Thursday evening. They stepped into Armadillo country and regretted doing it. The 7th grade Dillos took care of business.
The 7th grade Dillos kicked off to start the game. Oscar Villa handled the kicking duties for the Dillos. The Dillo defense came ready to swarm. Oscar Villa, Gunnar Hibler, Kristian McCoury, Dallas Caldwell, Cosme Diaz and Kolton Ellis swarmed to the football on this drive. This forced a Dublin punt.
The 7th grade Dillos took over on their own 30-yard line. Kelan Verette and Geryn Young made short runs but the Dillos couldn't get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. The Dillos were forced to punt.
Dublin took over with great field position. Jordan Watson made two big hits at the line of scrimmage to bring up a 3rd and long. Dublin hit their tight-end up the seam and Dallas Caldwell made the tackle to save a touchdown. On 1st down, the whole defensive line piled on the ball carrier. Those making the tackle were: Bryan Rogers, Oscar Villa and Dustin Sloan. Oscar Villa forced a fumble on 2nd down and Daniel Calderon recovered the ball on the 5-yard line.
The second quarter started off great with a 61-yard run by Kelan Verette behind the blocking of Ismael Ramirez, Kristian McCoury, Wesley Gates, Oscar Villa and Brian Rogers. Verette also made a run of 29 yards on the drive. Verette connected with Jordan Watson on a pass for 9 yards. Geryn Young punched it in from 9 yards out for the TD. Verette ran in the 2-point try - 8-0, Dillos.
Dublin began a drive that moved them deep into Dillo territory. Dublin tried two outside runs and were mildly successful until they were brought down by Oscar Villa and Daniel Calderon. On 3rd down, Dublin threw to their tight-end and Dallas Caldwell once again made a TD saving tackle. Kolton Ellis made a big sack on the QB for a 9-yard loss. Dublin connected with their tight-end again and Caldwell and Verette made TD saving tackles. Kelan Verette intercepted the next pass to the tight-end and made a 23-yard return.
Verette started the Dillos drive with a 21-yard run around the right side. Verette connected with Caldwell for a 41-yard touchdown pass. Verette punched in the 2-point conversion - 16-0, Dillos at the half.
The Dillos got the ball to start the 2nd half. Kelan Verette and Geryn Young each made runs of 4 yards. On 3rd down, Verette connected with Jordan Watson for a gain of 32 yards. On the next play, Verette connected with Watson for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point try was stopped - 22-0, Dillos.
Dublin got the ball back but didn't hold on to it for long. Oscar Villa and Jordan Watson made good tackles on the drive. Kolton Ellis forced a fumble but Dublin got it back. Good coverage was provided by Ruben Aguirre and Kelan Verette. Dublin was forced to punt.
The Dillos took over and it only took two plays to score. Verette made a run of 32 yards around the right-end. Kolton Ellis took the handoff and ran up the middle for 24 yards and a TD. The 2-point try was no good - 28-0, Dillos.
Dublin had the ball to start the 4th quarter. Dublin tried to throw on 1st down and was pressured by Brandon Amstead, Ryan Salinas and Asa Harbour. Ashton Krueger blitzed on the next play and T.J. Hibler had good coverage down the field.
Dublin was forced to punt. Kelan Verette fielded the punt and ran it in from 55 yards away for a touchdown. Geryn Young threw a pass to Daniel Calderon for the 2-point conversion - 36-0, Dillos.
Dublin didn't have the ball for too much longer. T.J. Hibler, Ruben Aguirre, and Dallas Caldwell made touchdown saving tackles. Kolton Ellis forced a fumble and Ruben Aguirre recovered the fumble. Dillos took a knee - 36-0, Dillos!
The 7th grade Dillos played their hearts out Thursday. This win brings the 7th grade Dillos' record to 3-0. The Dillos travel to Bangs next week to take on the Dragons.
