The San Saba 8th grade Dillos rolled to an impressive 42-0 district opener win over Dublin's 8th grade Lions last Thursday night at Rogan Field. The young Dillos lit up the new scoreboard with 42 unanswered points.
San Saba's Russell Lowe kicked off for the Dillos. Dublin returned the kick to midfield. The defense, led by Trevor Tinney, Michael McKinnerney, Luis Vega, Ryan Guidroz, Diego Lara, Juan Ortega, Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, Diego Montoya and Dusty Parum, slowed the Lions' attack.
Shawn Argote hit the Dublin quarterback causing a fumble. Luis Vega fell on the loose football to give San Saba the ball. Sean Argote was the work horse for San Saba. Sean had runs of 6, 12, 5, 5, 15, 6 and 4 yards. Argote finished the drive with a 4-yard run. The PAT failed, 6-0 Dillos.
San Saba kicked to Dublin. J.T. Mathis made a good tackle. Good defense by Russell Lowe, Sean Argote and Dusty Parum stifled the Lions. Dublin punted as the 1st quarter ended.
It didn't take long for the Dillos to strike again as Aaron Perez, Joe Lindsey, Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, Diego Montoya, Corey Snider and Michael McKinnerney opened a big hole in the Dublin Defense as Sean Argote ran 73 yards for another Dillo score. Argote ran in the extra points and the Dillos led, 14-0.
San Saba kicked to Dublin. Ryan Guidroz played good defense. Diego Montoya, Michael McKinnerney, Dusty Parum, Isaac Zepeda, Juan Ortega, Kolton Haverland, Nathan Amstead, Juan Garcia, Marcus Escobedo and Russton Ellis also provided good defense. J.T. Mathis and Treavor Tinney covered the pass well. Dublin punted. Russell Lowe had a good return of 20 yards. Argote ran 9 yards and then 7 before scoring on a 3-yard run. Argote ran in the PAT - 22-0, Dillos.
San Saba kicked off. Parum, Montoya and Aaron Rixse forced a punt. J.T. Mathis returned it 10 yards. The half ended - 22-0.
Dublin kicked to San Saba to start the 3rd quarter. Sean Argote returned the kickoff 45 yards. Argote ran behind J.T. Mathis, Corey Snider, Ryan Guidroz, Russell Lowe, Isaac Zepeda, Joe Lindsey, Kolton Haverland, Aaron Rixse and Russton Ellis. Argote ran for 7 yards before breaking loose a 30-yard run for a touchdown. Argote ran in the PAT - 28-0, Dillos.
After the kick, Kolton Haverland, Joe Lindsey, Trevor Tinney, Corey Snider, Diego Lara, Isaac Zepeda, Juan Ortega, Nathan Amstead, Juan Garcia, Aaron Rixse and Marcus Escobedo forced a punt. Russell Lowe took the punt and raced 66 yards behind a wall of Dillos for a touchdown. The PAT failed - 36-0, Dillos.
San Saba kicked to Dublin. Treavor Tinney and Juan Ortega tackled the receiver. Luis Vega, Kolton Haverland and Diego Montoya forced a punt. The punt was muffed and Dublin got the ball back. Joe Lindsey, Diego Lara, Russell Lowe and Corey Snider forced another punt. Lowe returned it 20 yards as the 3rd quarter ended. Russell Lowe took a hand off from J.T. Mathis and raced 21 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed - 42-0, Dillos.
Juan Garcia kicked for San Saba. J.T. Mathis recovered the kick. The Dillo offense had some bad snaps and Lowe punted. Treavor Tinney recovered the ball when Dublin muffed the punt. Juan Garcia ran for 9 and 2 yards. Ryan Guidroz raced 41 yards for a touchdown, but a penalty brought it back. The Dillos punted. Joe Lindsey, Corey Snider and Kolton Haverland finished off the Lions for the win.
Sean Argote had 187 yards rushing on 14 carries. All the Dillos did a great job. San Saba 8th grade plays Bangs in Bangs Thursday night.
