Thursday, September 25, 2008 • Posted September 25, 2008

Members of the Pierian Study Club met September 11, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the New Hope Presbyterian Church for their annual fall luncheon. The yearbook committee, Millie Burnham, Sandy Kuykendall, Joycelyn McRorey, Dorothy Miller, and Kathleen Hawkins, serving as the chair, hosted the event.

The new president, Patricia Warren, greeted the guests on their arrival, and they were presented with new yearbooks. Vickie Stevenson gave a blessing on the food. The dining tables were covered with elegant cut work cloths and centered with fresh bouquets of roses and alstrameria lilies arranged in crystal epergnes.

The members dined on an attractive and delicious salad lunch.

After the meal Mrs. Warren called the meeting to order. Martha Roe Terry led the group in the club collect. Dorothy Miller, secretary, called the roll and read the minutes of the last meeting.

Mrs. Warren gave her inaugrual address concerning the club for the next two years and the future of our community. She stated that San Saba is a work in progress and that step by step we will gain the heights.

Her text for the talk was excerpted from three books, The Dash by Linda Ellis, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, and Same Kind of Difference as Me by Debra Hall.

Yearbook committee chairman, Kathleen Hawkins, reviewed the programs for the coming year. Anita Miles, project committee chair, stated that the club would continue to be involved in the Angel Tree, Dove Project, eyeglasses, and scholarships for graduating high school seniors.

Entertainment committee chairman, Barbara Gilger, announced that her committee would be in charge of the Christmas party and the end of year social.

The next meeting will be held in the home of Susie Nettleship on October 9. The program, “Colorado Trail Ride with Red Stegal,” will be presented by Maude Ann Kuykendall.
