San Saba holds Cross Country Meet

This past Saturday was the San Saba Cross Country Meet at Mill Pond Park. Twelve teams were entered, but Hurricane Ike apparently caused three to drop out, so nine schools attended the meet. As it turned out, the cool temperatures and lack of wind made it a perfect day for runners. All visitors were very complimentary of the meet which just shows how great the helpers are in San Saba. Team totals were as follows:

First place winners were: 7th Grade Girls-Candace Saldivar-San Saba; 8th Grade Girls-Cassidy Murray-Brady

JH Boys-Austin Odem-Rochelle; JV Girls-Shay Glen-Early;

Varsity Girls-Sidney-Evant; Varsity Boys-Dilion Shaner-Cisco

The next meet will be Saturday, September 20 in Ballinger.

The great help which made the meet possible were: Scott Glaze and his city crew who fixed part of the course real nice; Pedro Prado and Buddy Bush who helped set up the course; Scott Glaze and Dena Vasquez who took care of getting the water. Jeffrey Osbourne, Karl Haverland, & Kolton Haverland who took care of the gates; Jeremy Bush, Dena Vasquez, Darla Dennis, Amanda Saldivar & Hailey Osbourne who helped guide runners; Kara Stowe who drove the lead vehicle and Yesenia Saldivar the back vehicle.

Dave Underwood who does a great job starting the races; the Nettleships for furnishing a four wheeler; Susan Nettleship, Cheray Haverland, Jennifer Osbourne, and Vickie Key, the efficient timers.

Marcie Maxcey who took care of the numbers and medals very efficiently; Vickie Key for providing tables and returning water containers; Leigh Ann Glaze and Ashley Stewart who handled the money and tallied the results; Ray Riggs who helped with preparations and Allen Brown who takes care of situations.
