Indians burned by Flames
Thursday, September 11, 2008 • Posted September 11, 2008

The Indians poured their heart and soul into Friday night’s game against the Faith Academy Flames.

Faith Academy won the game 21-68 midway through the 4th quarter. Still without the services of Dillon Epperson and Jesse Perez and dealing with a string of injuries during the game, the Indians showed the character this team is made of.

All 3 freshmen, Mikey Smith, Chisholm Duke, and Ryan Breadner were called upon to play. Shea Crawford (junior) and Michael Crawford (senior) are playing their first year of football. One could relate the adage, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of fight in the dog that counts.”

The Flames had the Indians down by 14 before the Indians scored. Nieves Solis passed to Duncan Roberts for a 6 yd touchdown. Tucker Corsi kicked the PAT to cut the Flame’s lead to 8-14. As time expired in the 1st quarter, Hector Jimenez recovered a Flame fumble. The Indians were unable to convert the turnover into points.

Faith Academy scored 3 touchdowns on pass plays in the 2nd quarter before the Indians scored again. With 0:29 remaining in the half, Duncan Roberts scored on a 1 yard run. Solis passed to Josh Perry for the PAT. The Flames scored on another pass play as time expired in the half. The Indians trailed 15 to 42.

The Indians scored first in the 3rd quarter as Solis connected with Jimenez for a 60 yard TD. The PAT failed, but the Indians had cut the lead in half, 21-42. Duncan Roberts recovered the ensuing onside kick for the Indians. The Indians fumbled the ball several plays later. Faith Academy scored their only TD of the quarter on a 40 yard run. Josh Perry blocked the PAT.

The Flames scored 3 times in the 4th quarter while the Indians were held scoreless. The Indians suffered their second turnover of the night when they fumbled the kickoff return which led to the game-ending touchdown.

The Indians host Moran at 7:30 Friday night. Come support the Indians.
