This past few weeks has seen some true devastation in our country. Hurricane Fay landed in Florida and decided it did not want to leave in any particular hurry. It left Florida with a true soaking like it hasn’t had in a while.

Then a week ago Gustav made its way into the Gulf and floods in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana were recorded. It was especially scary when Louisiana was targeted after Katrina just a couple of years ago.

At the present, Ike, and Josephine are making their way toward our borders again. These storms have and are capable of taking lives and destroying much property.

One thing that we all know is that we cannot stop these storms from coming. Our God has that power but we do not. We can prepare for their arrival but when they hit it is usually difficult to recover from all of the loss.

Many people are without food, water, and electricity. Businesses are closed and the owners are depending on the income that is not there now. The employees of these businesses cannot work so they struggle also. For the people who live in the coastal areas it is hard indeed. Although we may not have to deal with these kinds of problems, we all have those of our own, don’t we?

We may have health issues we are dealing with. For some it is financial. Others may be struggling with their marriages and children. We also have aging parents that are of concern to each of us.

Economic struggles have hit almost everyone. Gasoline is high, forcing those who sell products to charge more and we have less at the end of the month.

Well, I’m here to tell you there is hope! No, I can’t make these things go away, but life will be easier if each one of us just keep on trusting in our God. He is in control of all things and knows what everyone is going through.

Yes, it will be a struggle at this time. But God has a plan that is better than any we can think. God told the Israelites, through Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Jer. 29:11

Are you trusting in God or trying to struggle through on your own? It will be much better with God!
