Judge Byron Theodosis called to order the September 8th meeting of the County Commissioners Court. Roger McGehee did the invocation followed by everyone saying pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Action was taken on the following County Official and Departmental Reports:
County Clerk Kim Wells reported that the county was fairly normal and the district will have Judge Mills for Court on October 28th. The Clerk’s Report was approved subject to audit.
County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins reported that the grant for the North San Saba Water Supply was closed out. The Treasurer’s Report was approved subject to audit.
Judge Les Dawson gave a report about the good job the state trooper assigned to our area is doing. The Justice of the Peace Report was approved subject to audit.
The journal showed there was an average of 7.12 inmates per day in the jail report for August. The County Sheriff and Jail report was approved subject to audit.
The following reports did not require action taken:

3. County Grant Writer
4. County EMS Billing
5. County Emergency Management Coordinator
6. County On-Site Sewage Facility Management
7. County 9-1-1
8. County Damage Management Technician Report (Trapper)
The Commissioners approved minutes of previous Court Meeting.
The following items were discussed for questions or adjustments to 2008-2009 Budget:
a. Commissioners budget determined by miles of county road in their precinct
b. Cell phone charges are almost at the limit for the minutes in the plan. Employees need to limit non-business calls
c. Discussed the good work the grant writer has done
Stan Weik stopped by and Judge Theodosis relayed the appreciation that the City has approved funds for two more dispatchers.
Mr. Weik also mentioned that he was overseeing the new sign being installed at the City Limits and asked if the County had made special plans to commemorate 9-11. The County has not made any plans; however, would encourage people to put out American Flags on September 11.
d. Carolyn McDowell and Neal Alexander from The County Extension offices came to discuss the travel allowance for the budget. They will be reimbursed for mileage, for all business expenses from a separate account and not the salary account at the same amount as the state of Texas rate.
e. Discussed uniform attire and allowance. Cathi Miles will get prices from several companies for a patch to be sewn on shirt with inscription: San Saba County, Texas.
Sam Murray, President of City National Bank stopped by for Judge Theodosis’ signature on a document.
After some discussion the commissioners approved the proposed Homestead Exemption for $10,000 and Over 65 Exemption for $15,000.
County Attorney David Williams asked that the Revision to San Saba County Commissioner Precinct Lines to be tabled again because they are not ready to present the report.
Judge Theodosis asked each commissioner about conditions in their areas to decide about enacting a burn ban. Marsha Hardy, County Coordinator, reported that she gave the Colorado State Park Manager a sign to put up when the Burn Ban is enacted.
She also reported that there has been some fires but the fire department took care of them.
Commissioner’s did not enact the Burn Ban at this time and will access the situation on September 15th before the public budget hearing.
The next County Commissioners Court meeting date & time will be Tuesday September 25th at 9 a.m.
By law, two public hearings are scheduled for public input for the Budget. The dates for the two public meetings are: September 15th at 9 a.m. and September 19th at 9 a.m.
Treasurer Gayla Hawkins reported no amendments or line item transfers to the 07-08 Budget.
The Commissioners approved to pay the accounts payables and Judge Theodosis will call the Secretary of State to verify a charge of $35.00 from them before payment of that bill.The 2 1/2 hour meeting was adjourned.
