Thursday, September 4, 2008 • Posted September 4, 2008

Displaying the American Flag on major holidays and special occasions plus the Armadillo High School Flag on Football Fridays has been a proud tradition of the San Saba Rotary Club for 18 years. The Rotary Club has been joined by 110 civic minded business and citizens in supporting this program in 2008.

Members of the Rotary Club offer Flag Services to businesses and individual citizens. For an annual fee of $35.00 for one flag or $65.00 for both, members of the Club put up and take down “Old Glory” on federal holidays plus special events and the ten San Saba High School Football Fridays. The Flag Project is an important fund raiser for the Rotary Club. Kevin Shahan is the Flag Project Chairman for 2008.

In 2008, the Rotary Club utilized Flag Project proceeds to host a free family oriented music festival, held the 28th Annual Honor Student Banquet for over 300 students, parents and teachers; provided three scholarships; and, donated over $ 3,000 for other school activities. In addition, contributions were made to local community service entities including the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department, San Saba County Young Farmers, Meals on Wheels, Angel Tree, Venturing Crew 55, Cherokee Home for Children, American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. Essentially, all funds collected by the Rotary Club Flag Project are returned to the community.
