Dead Mouse
Thursday, August 28, 2008 • Posted August 28, 2008

Several times over the years, we have had a foul strange odor in our kitchen. We start looking in the cabinets and under the dishwasher or under the refrigerator.

Often, by the time we found it, the odor would be so strong you would want to leave the house. I have wanted to put a clothespin on my nose before removing the pots and pans. You would not think a small dead mouse could smell so bad.

Holding my breath and periodically going to the window for fresh air, I was able to remove the mouse. After several doses of air freshener, I was able to stay in the kitchen. Dealing with that mouse reminds me of a problem we all face in life called sin.

Sin is anything that does not please God or goes against His Word, the Bible. Lying, cheating, unkindness, not loving God, or losing our temper are just a few (there are many more) but rejection of Jesus Christ is the biggest, (John 8:23&24).

God knows every sin (Psalms 69:5). Sin is a lot more offensive to God than that stinking little mouse was to us. It defiles us like the stinking mouse that we wanted to get far away from, or get rid of (Matt 15:18, 19).

If we will acknowledge, confess, or ask forgiveness; we can be forgiven, (Psalms 32:5,1John 1:9). Do not neglect it; if you do, it will stink to high heaven. See you in Church next Sunday.
