The long awaited rain did come at last. Over an inch was received at and around the Bend. There was no snow but a little bit of sleet Friday night, not enough to hardly notice. The moisture is certainly welcome.

The Price family had the family of Jim, Patty and Thomas Caughman from Houston over the Thanksgiving holidays. They, along with Robert, Spring and Haley Price, enjoyed all the turkey and trimmings that go along with Thanksgiving. Friday afternoon, the Caughman family and the Price family did some Christmas shopping in Killeen and afterward stopped by the Red Lobster for a bite to eat.

Lola Morris reported that she enjoyed Thanksgiving in the home of her son, along with other relatives. She enjoyed seeing her great grandson, Sean Nixon, and granddaughter, Dedrie Nixon, of Woodlands; and Dennis and Dora Ann Hayter of Pasadena, who also visited the family.

William and Jane Clark held the family reunion of the late Edmond and Elsia Henniger over the Thanksgiving holidays with many family members attending.

The home of Tommie and Jane Tinney was bursting at the seams with relatives over the Thanksgiving holidays.

The home of Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff was a very busy place over the long weekend. They enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal in Killeen with some members of the family. On Friday, Robbie, Amy, Ethan and Ory Eckhoff came in sick with some sort of virus. Friday night, Leon took Robbie and Ethan to the emergency room in Lampasas. Leon also came down with whatever it was and Mebbie seemed to be the only one not that did not have it. Robbie and his family felt well enough Monday to go home. Robbie and his family were visiting Amy’s parents in Hawley and had left to come to Bend but got caught in the snow storm in Abilene where they spent the night. They got to Bend Friday bringing the little bug with them. This will be one Thanksgiving that the Eckhoff family will remember for some time to come.

Football continues for Jerome and Shirley Meischen as the Leander team won a close game Friday in Huntsville against Houston Klein Oaks with a score of 27-24. The weather was very cold but everyone wrapped up in a lot of clothing. There were eighteen people in the cheering squad for Blake Gideon and his team-mates. Both Blake and David McBride played a very good game on offense and defense, as did the other team members. Blake and David have roots in San Saba and Bend, and their grandparents are very proud of them.

This Saturday, Leander will play against Longview in Corsicana at 2 PM. So once again, there will be eighteen to twenty-five people on the road again to cheer the team on.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Nathan Poor whose birthday is November 29 and to Lewvon Hicks who will celebrate a birthday December 5.
