Cox Completes Navy Basic Training
Thursday, August 21, 2008 • Posted August 21, 2008

Seaman Recruit Joseph William Cox graduated from the US Navy Great Lakes Naval Training Station on August 1, 2008. Cox, a 2006 graduate of San Saba High School, was trained in Division 269, which achieved Hall of Fame status.

The Navy has only one location for boot camp: The Great Lakes Naval Training Center, which is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan, halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Today, much of Navy Boot Camp is conducted indoors. Training includes indoor marching and drill, the confidence course, and weapons training (shotgun and pistol). Most important, recruits learn the core values of the Navy, which are Honor, Courage and Commitment. The Recruit Training Command processes more than 54,000 recruits per year through Navy Boot Camp.

Joseph will be attending "A" school in Pensacola, Florida for 43 days and will specialize in Aviation Mechanics. After graduation, he will be assigned to a naval squadron and remain with that unit until duty calls elsewhere. Joseph is the youngest son of Ross J. Cox, Sr. and Rosemary Cox.
