Mable Ruth (Mackie) Towerton

Mable Ruth (Mackie) Towerton passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 in Keene, Texas. Services were held June 4, 2008 in Keene Texas. She was buried in the Keene Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Forrest Bigham, John Lamb, Brian Lisenbe, Charles Mackie, Roger Dale Mackie, and Tommy Joe Mackie. Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Barber, Johnny Dee Coker, John A. Hicks, James Hicks, Raymond Hicks, Roland Hicks, Gary Don Mackie, Dale Selby, David, Selby, and James Selby.

She was born Dec 9, 1916, in San Saba, Texas, to Charley and Katie Bell Grumbles Mackie. Mable was a 1934 graduate of San Saba High School. She married Wayne Clell Towerton on July 4, 1936 in San Saba, Texas.

Mrs. Towerton was a homemaker and a member of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was a creative quilter and loved working in her flower garden.

Mable Ruth Towerton is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Gloria Wayne (Sherwin) Selby of Paradise, CA; and Katie Ann (Ed) Lamb of Ooltewah, TN; grandchildren: Dale (Linda) Selby of Hanford, CA; James (Mirna) Selby of Olympia, WA; David (Misha) Selby of Visalia, CA; John Lamb of Chattanooga, TN; Twila Murphy of Paradise, CA; and Lt. Janet (Stephen) Lamb-Barber of Falls Church, VA; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Tommy Mackie of Arlington, TX; two sisters-in-law: Charlene Williams of Dallas, and Ruth Mackie of Portland, TX; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wayne Clell Towerton, on August 14, 1995; sister, Gracie Houston; and two brothers, Donald and Frank Mackie.
