Joseph A. Vogel Family Reunion
Thursday, August 14, 2008 • Posted August 14, 2008

The Joseph A. Vogel family held their 84th consecutive family reunion on Sunday, August 3rd, at the Senior Center in San Saba. This tradition started in 1924. The first Sunday in August was selected because it would be the closest Sunday to "Grandpa's" birthday.

Joseph had six sons: Walter was married to Myrtle Cady; son Eddie was married to Sallie Swails; son John was married to Velma Massey; son Ernie was married to Lillie Reeves; son Luther was married to Verna Jetter; and son Frank was married to Alice Horne. He also had three daughters: Telia married George Merideth; daughter Josie married John McNeill (deceased), then married Albert Cornels; and daughter Eda was married to Robert Lee.

Many in the Vogel family still live in the area. W.T. Vogel (Dubis) came with Howard Yancey from Lampasas; Joseph (Joe) and LaVerne Vogel from Dallas; Bob and Judy Renker from Temple; Worth Jones from San Saba; Margaret, Carolyn and Thomas Stiles from Temple; Gary and Sharon Vogel from San Saba; Jodie and Kay Vogel from Burleson; Tayler and Gunner Hibler from San Saba; Raymond Patton from San Saba; Martin and Maribel Hoke from El Campo; Elizabeth and Tyler Rasmussen from El Campo; Clay, Christine, Caylee, and Cayson Vogel from Brady; Angela Vogel Bradley and children, Sharon Beth and Caleb, from Brookesmith; Rodney and Cindy Sue Vogel from Richland Springs; Bryant and Valrea Patton from San Saba; Doug and Vicki Smith from Richardson; and Bettye McLaughlin from San Saba.

All brought covered dishes and a feast was enjoyed by all. Everyone enjoyed getting together, visiting, being brought up to date on family happenings and all the great yarns of the day. It was voted to have reunion #85 next year at the same place, and to try to make it extra special.
