This article appeared in the August issue of Ranch & Rural Living, published in San Angelo about Cliff Brister:
Winner of the Outstanding Trapper of the Year award was Clifford W. Brister of Sutton County, San Angelo District -
"Cliff Brister was born in San Saba and raised in South Texas, graduating from Orange Grove High School. The son of a former government trapper, he began his career as a Wildlife Damage Management technician in Sutton County in 1987.
Sutton County has two trapper positions, but one was vacant for most of the year. Thus, Brister has had to cover both assignments, a job he has done very well and without complaint.
Sutton County is one of the few areas of the state where coyotes are not plentiful, so it takes considerable skill and ground work to locate and remove them. His long experience in Sutton County has allowed him to develop skills necessary for trapping predators in the Texas Hill Country.
Brister is also well-known for his work with 4-H and FFA young people, helping them with their show goats and with wildlife science projects.
In recommending him for this award, Brister’s supervisor commented that he is the kind of employee who knows what he has to do and does the job right the first time. Brister and his wife, Deanine, have one daughter, Mandy, who was a Bryan Hunt Scholarship winner a couple of years ago."
