The countdown to the Christmas holiday break is on! What a busy and fun season we are in!The junior high Indians hosted the Eden Bulldogs last Monday. The Lady Indians won 31-22, with Tori Morrison’s season high 23 point contribution. The Indians lost a tough one. JD Bell led the team in scoring. On Tuesday, the varsity Lady Indians traveled to Blanco. The Lady Indians came up short of a victory. Talli Morrison led the team with 8 points. The 25th Annual Cherokee Basketball Tournament was a success. Thank you to everyone that contributed food, time and energy to make it another great tournament. The Indians and Lady Indians both played in the championship and both fell short of the victory. The Lady Indians defeated Lometa JV and Mullin to earn their place in the championship game against a tough Richland Springs team. The Indians faced Lometa JV and Mullin to play against the Blanket Tigers in the championship game. The Tigers, seeking revenge from the loss to the Indians in the football Bi-District game, defeated the Indians in a great defensive game. Talli Morrison and Robert Brewer were selected All-Tournament players and Seth Hahn won the free throw contest! This week, the junior high teams travel to Richland Springs on Monday night. The Indians and Lady Indians will travel to Lometa on Friday. The Elementary UIL teams will compete at Rochelle on Tuesday. 4-H will meet at the Home’s library Monday at 6:30 p.m. Junior High UIL will be at Lohn on Wednesday. The annual Christmas program will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the gym. The students have been working hard and are sure to provide much entertainment! Be sure to make plans to attend this fun and festive event. The Relay for Life team will have a Chili Supper at the Fire hall on Saturday to kick off the Cherokee Christmas Festivities. The meal is 5:30-6:30 and the festivities begin at the Methodist Church at 6:30. All meal proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Make plans to attend this great community event.Don’t forget to contribute to the PENNY WARS! At this time, it looks like the Elementary students are in the lead, but Junior High and High School are close behind. All money goes to the American Cancer Society.
