Recently we heard of a football player for the Kansas City Chiefs who murdered his girlfriend and then took his own life. This is very tragic. We wonder why such a gifted person would do something like this? There are times that things may not be going well for us in our lives. For those reading these words, there are different things, problems, and obstacles that may be causing us some hardships. We may be looking at what seems to be a mountain to climb, and we are out of energy and don't know how we will be able to get up it.When times like this occur we may look backward and say, "If only I had....", or "If they had...". Hindsight is always better than foresight, I have heard. However, we must make the best of what we have at the present. We can't undo what was done. And we must not throw up our hands in desperation and just give up.The Apostle Paul had many things going against him. Some people did not want to listen to his message from God. They stoned him supposing him to be dead (Acts 14), put him in jail (Acts 16), and just opposed him at every turn. But as bad as things got worse, he never gave up on God. He never thought any of these things were worth ending his life. What an example for us!When things do not go the way we would like, we can do something drastic and end our lives, or remember that as bad as things get, God is still there for us. He will bring something positive out of the storm we face.We must remember, however, that God is not going to just make things happen. We must be involved in the process. This process starts with us taking a good look at our lives. If we have sin that has not been forgiven, we must first repent and humbly come to God, who is always willing to forgive us. Secondly, we need to pray. God wants to hear our problems and we must take them to Him. As we do He will listen. We may not think He cares because of the enormity of the things we face, but He is always watching and listening for our call. Then, we need to act. By this I mean not just sit around and think of how we can improve things, but actually follow through and do them. Only then will things begin to change. Don't give up!
