2 CHRONICLES 7:13-14 “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among MY people: + If MY people which are called by MY name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek MY face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”This is one of the most comforting promises that can be found in your Bible and was spoken directly from the mouth of GOD. The promises of GOD never fade away and never become out of season. They are just as applicable to people today as they were in the instant GOD spoke them. GOD has spoken some very harsh warnings many times to His own people when their living became so saturated with sin it grieved Him, and if His warnings were not believed, disastrous punishment followed. We have just experienced warnings from GOD by the unwelcome heat and short drought. The conversations in every store and in every street and dwelling seemed to center on the questions, when will it rain and when will this heat wave change. We should accept this as a warning and realize it may return more severely if we do not accept GOD’s promise as seen in our text. There is scripture to document this thinking if we search for it. But America has been so greatly blessed we have unconsciously lost our fear and need for GOD. We have huge stores filled with everything our flesh can desire. . Fast cars, comfortable homes, tv’s, computers, ball games, and such entertainment it often consumes all our idle time; and leaves no time for GODLY worship. We are so greatly blessed we feel we already have it and don’t need GOD. That attitude will invite the return of GOD’S anger and punishment unless we repent as GOD pleads. Can our warning return more severely? Yes, LOOK-1 THESSALONIANS 5:2-3 “The day of the LORD so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they think Peace and safety: then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman in birth.”Most women feel a slight pain at the beginning of a birth. It goes away and there is comfort, but it always returns and becomes more frequent and severe until there is a delivery. Some may feel this scripture is misused and only relates to the return of CHRIST, but it also accurately describes the coming of GOD’S punishment for sin. GOD‘S warning will always return to be more frequent and severe until there is repentance: or His predicted punishment. We have recently seen a warning of GOD in the war against HIS chosen people. You will not find in your Bible where GOD ever punished a people without a prior warning, and we are receiving a warning right now. We should know a present world repentance is over due.
