If you have driven by San Saba High School on Wallace Street or made your way by San Saba Elementary School on Church Street lately, you have definitely noticed a great deal of progress that is being made on the building project. We have two expected dates for delivery of the buildings to the ISD for use. June 21, 2013 is the date for the science building to be completed that is being constructed across from the main entrance at the high school. This science building will consist of a classroom space and a combo classroom and fully equipped science lab. Please recall, that the first phase of the construction project was completed during the summer months as two classrooms/science labs were renovated to produce one updated science lab space in the interior of the high school. As well, the dual credit science lab space was taken in to make a life skills classroom. Currently, the science teachers are sharing the space, and trying to take turns using the lab until the new building is completed.

The new elementary school that is being constructed between Church and Story Streets is scheduled to be completed by August 13, 2013. Good weather, hard work, and a great deal of luck will have this building constructed in time for the 2013-2014 school year. We are still optimistic that the new elementary school will be ready for the start of school. We are monitoring the schedule and so far the project is on time. Once school is out for this school year in May, 2013, we will begin the demolition of the current structures that are located at the property. The structures include the two K-2 classroom wings and current nurse’s office. These three buildings will be demo’ed to make room for the parking lot and the drop off and pick up area. The main entrance of the building will be turned away from Church Street and face Story Street. Two drop off points will exist for car traffic and buses. A bus lane will be staged along Church Street and a circular drive and parking lot will be located at the main entrance that will front Story Street.

It is an exciting time for the students of SSISD and the community as this building project brings business to the community and great anticipation for the staff and students. If you would like to view the plans of these two buildings or would like to ask questions, please drop by the central office at 800 West Wallace Street or give me a call at 325/372-3771.
