The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a Regular Meeting on Monday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President Kim Kirk called the meeting to order and established a Quorum with all Board members present. Everyone gave the pledges to the American and Texas flags followed by the invocation by Board member Kevin Shahan.
Recognition was given to the STEM Education and Jennifer Osborne, Service Center; and to FCCLA students by the Dove Project.
Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, presented Baylee Williams as Student of the Month and Ms. Jessica Escamilla as Teacher of the Month.
Elementary School Principal, Kay Shackelford, presented Ms. Laurene Mays as Teacher of the Month.
Campus Recognition was given to High School Principal, Brian Williams, for organizing the Veteran’s Day Program on Monday, November 12th at the Armadillo Arena. Fifty five Veterans and spouses attended the tribute by the students.
Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze reported on the following:
A. The next Board Meeting will be Thursday, December 13th at 6 p.m.
B. Gave a report regarding the August 2013 Foundation School Payment.
C. The Christmas district staff meal will be December 21st at noon. School will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. that day for Christmas break.
D. An audit is scheduled for the week of November 12th.
E. The Christmas Holiday Schedule will be school dismissed at 11:30 a.m. December 21st to January 4th.
The following Consent Agenda was approved by the Board:
1. The regular and executive meeting minutes of October 8th.
2. Amended 2012-13 budget as needed for the General Fund, High School SIP, Elementary School SIP and Middle School SSI.
3. Allow and pay bills.
4. The Financial Report.
5. Accepted donation in the amount of $142.50 from the Cross Country students from T-Shirt sales, and the Jr. Lady Dillos reported $200 that was allocated back to them for the Basketball Tournament.
Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky reported that assessments and preparations are being made for the semester exams and grant applications have been submitted for extended learning activities for students that need help.
Enrollment for the Elementary grades are 336 students; Middle School, 188; and High School, 210; total students, 734.
Athletic Director, Jeff Pannell gave a report on the Cross Country athletes; Girls Basketball program making arrangements to host a Tournament; Tennis Teams season results; the Armadillo football team earned a 3-way tie for District Championship and the Junior Armadillo’s earned District Championship.
The progress report for the Building Project is that a lot of ground is shaping up for concrete to be poured starting November 20th.
The following Policy Update 95 affecting Local Policies were presented for the second reading and unanimously approved: AB, District Name; DFBB, Term Contracts-Nonrewal; DFE, Termination of Employment-Resignation; DGBA, Personnel-Management Relations - Employee Complaints/Grievances; EIE, Academic Achievement - Retention and Promotion; FNG, Student Rights and Responsibilities - Student and Parent Complaints/Grievances; GF, Public Complaints.
Action was taken on the following New Business:
a. Reviewed submission of Bilingual Exception for PK 2012-2013.
b. Approved initiative to pursue plan to grow and identify a Bilingual Teacher for PK.
c. Discussed 1st Reading of previously rescinded Local policies: EIA, EIC, and EIE.
d. Approved a revised lease of baseball/softball fields at Mill Pond Park.
e. Assistant Superintendent Bohensky reported that SSISD has 100% Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements 2011-2012 & 2012-2013.
f. There was a discussion regarding having a Monitoring Counsel that was recomended to evaluate constructoral problems at the Armadillo Arena and the Central Administration Office. The matter was tabled for the next meeting.
g. The Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Mr. Howard, High School Science/Chemistry teacher. Four applicants were interviewed for this position that was vacated November 5th. Linda Bochardt, a Composite Science teacher, started teaching last week and Paige Smith, a Composite Science teacher started teaching Monday, November 12th.
President Kirk adjourned the meeting; there was no Executive Meeting.
