BI-DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! The Indians defeated the Blanket Tigers 75-70 and will advance to the Regional round to face the Milford Bulldogs at Hico on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.The Indians started off strong when Robert Brewer returned the opening kickoff. Rolando Davis ran in the extra point to give the Indians a 7-0 lead. The Indians defense did what they’ve done all season, which is to onside kick and Trey Shannon recovered the ball, to keep the ball in Indian possession. Soon after, EJ Borchers ran in a 28-yard run. Borchers’ PAT was good and, with 8:24 on the first period clock, the Indians led 15-0. The Tigers scored with 5:35 remaining, cutting the Indian lead to 15-8. With 4:32 remaining on the clock, Borchers found a 14-yard opening to the end zone. His PAT was good and the Indians were on top 23-8. The Tigers answered with a touchdown seconds later. With 1:36 left on the first quarter clock, Borchers scored his third touchdown of the night. His PAT was good and the Indians led 31-16 going into the second quarter. Borchers quickly found the end zone on a 3-yard run with 9:46 remaining in the half. His PAT was good and the lead was extended to 39-16. The Tigers answered back with a touchdown and PAT to cut the lead to 39-24. With 7:09 on the clock, Borchers threw to Stephen Austermann for an 18-yard touchdown pass and the Indians led 45-24. The Tigers scored with 4:17 remaining in the half, and recovered an Indian fumble with 2:11 on the clock to set up a Tiger touchdown with :46 remaining to cut the Indian lead to 45-40. The Indians quickly drove the ball toward the end zone and with only one second on the clock, Austermann connected a 13-yard pass to Logan Lopez and the Indians went into half-time with a 51-40 lead. The Tigers started off the second half scoring with 9:15 remaining. Michael Blythe blocked their PAT attempt and the Indians held the lead at 51-46. With 4:37 remaining in the quarter, Borchers ran in a 13-yarder. His PAT was good to bring the lead to 59-46. The Indian defense held the Tigers and on the Indians’ next possession, Borchers ran 22 yards into the end zone. His PAT extended the Indian lead to 67-46. Blanket answered with a touchdown and PAT to cut the lead to 67-54 to close out the third quarter. Both defenses held tight to cut minutes off of the clock, but the Tigers scored with 6:48 remaining in the game. Their PAT was good and once again the Indians only led by five, 67-62. With 2:53 remaining, Austermann ran into the end zone. Borchers’ PAT extended the lead to 75-62. The Tigers fought back and scored with 2:42 remaining. The Indians and Tigers held each other from scoring on their following possessions, and the clock was in the Indians’ favor as they were able to kneel down and close out the Bi-district game with a 75-70 win! The Indians will face the Milford Bulldogs in the Regional round of play.In basketball news, the JH teams both defeated the visiting Menard Yellowjackets on Monday night. Tori Morrison led the Lady Indians with 19 points. JD Bell and Kagen Hernandez led the Indian scoring. The HS Lady Indians hosted Brookesmith on Tuesday. Freshman Sophia Monroe led the team in scoring. The Lady Indians made a valiant effort to come from behind, but fell just short at the end. They traveled to Priddy for their tournament on Thursday and Saturday. Talli Morrison led the Lady Indians in defeating the Rochelle JV team on Thursday. Two games later, they took on the hosting Lady Pirates. Emily Skaggs led the team in scoring, as the Lady Pirates won the game. On Saturday, they took on Walnut Springs. Morrison led the team in scoring.
