Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, November 22, 2012 • Posted November 22, 2012

The San Saba Lady Dillos picked up another big road win Tuesday night against the Llano Lady Jackets. A motto for us this year has been “tough teams win on the road.” I felt like last year we struggled when we went on the road, so we really made it a point to be focused and mentally tough when playing in someone else’s gym. No matter what gym we are in, we want to find a way to get the job done. The Lady Dillos did just that on Tuesday night. Llano is a tough place to play and they are a very physical team, but our girls were ready and stepped up to the challenge! The Lady Dillos defeated the Lady Jackets by a score of 54-42. Scoring for the Lady Dillos were Cromer 4, C. Saldivar 10, M. Maxcey 28, Osbourn 3, Lasley 7, and A. Saldivar 2.Later in the week, the Lady Dillos hosted their annual Hill Country Classic Tournament. The 3-day tournament was played in both the Armadillo Arena and the White gym. There was a total of 43 games played in 3 days. It was a great tournament that showcased lots of talented teams and players from around the state, and I heard from more than one coach that this tournament was the best one that they would attend all season. I would like to take the time to thank everyone that helped with the Hill Country Classic. Our tournament truly is one of the best tournaments in the state and there is no way that it would be possible without the help of so many. I really appreciate all the people that ran the clock, kept the book, brought goodies to the hospitality room, worked the gate, cleaned the gym, and gave of your own time to help. San Saba is full of great people that are willing to lend a hand in any way they can and I want to say “thank you” from the bottom of my heart! Your help is the reason that we are able to host such a special tournament. I also want to thank all the sponsors that donated to our tournament. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated! This year’s sponsors were Alco, Alamo Pecan and Coffee, Athletic Supply, City National Bank, Commercial National Bank, Everett’s Furniture, G & R Grocery, Oliver Pecan, and the Junior Lady Dillos. Once again, thank you!The Lady Dillos opened up the tournament against Junction and defeated them by a score of 54-31. They then faced the Lady BlueKatts of Coleman. The Lady Dillos started off slow but broke the game open in the 2nd half. The Lady Dillos went on to defeat Coleman 57-34. In the semifinals, the Lady Dillos faced a tough Wall team. Our girls fought hard and battled their hearts out. We came up short by a score of 29-37, but there is no doubt that the Lady Hawks had their hands full. Wall would move on to the finals and become the eventual champion of the tournament. In the 3rd place game, the Lady Dillos faced Brady. Brady has a very talented team and shot the ball extremely well. Brady ended up defeating the Lady Dillos 29-57. Overall, it was a great tournament and I am very proud of our kids. We are improving each week, and will continue to work hard and get better! The Lady Dillos will travel to Blanco on Tuesday to face the Lady Panthers. We will then break for Thanksgiving and get ready for Harper and Coleman the following week. Go Lady Dillos!
