Elm Grove Echoes

The Elm Grove Echoes column, written by Mrs. J.P. (Irene) Cummings for many decades, was always the first section of the paper that Jim and I read each week, especially after our move to Seguin in 2009. Irene wrote her column as though she were writing a personal note to a close friend. We will all miss those personal notes and no one could ever bring to the page the knowledge that Irene possessed about this wonderful community in northwest San Saba County. After a few discussions with Marilyn, I have decided to offer to continue the column. This will be a new endeavor for me and I can only hope that I will be able to bring to the reader a column that Irene would be proud of. The Elm Grove Community meeting was held this past Saturday, there were not many in attendance. It is a busy time of year, but hopefully there will be more in attendance at the next meeting. Plans were made for the Elm Grove Christmas Program held each year at the community center. This year’s program will be held December 15th at 7pm. A covered dish meal will be enjoyed after the program; bring your favorite! The “42 players” meet at the Elm Grove Community Center each Thursday and everyone is invited to join them. Curtis Lee said they “try to start around 7pm”. Last week’s winners were Curtis Lee and Larry Griffin. The 42 tournament in Richland Springs is scheduled for 7pm on December 8th at the Richland Springs Community Center. The weather has cooled off. The temperature shown on my truck as I drove to school Monday morning was 27 degrees. Great weather for all the hunters! The Richland Springs Coyotes continue to advance in the play-offs as they face Jonesboro. The game will be on Coyote Field on Friday, November 23rd. GO COYOTES!!HAPPY THANKSGIVING!elmgroveechoes@yahoo.com
