Sunday, November 11th, was Veteran's Day. It is a day that we honor the men and women who have served in our military over the many years. These men and women have sometimes put their lives on the line so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we now have. We are thankful to all of those who have served and are serving at this time.I also think of a veteran as a person who has a experience at something. Let me tell you about this one man I know. Though he did not serve for a king or country, he was a veteran. There were many battles that he fought. In his service he gave everything he had. He believed in loyalty. When the enemy came to oppose him he never backed down or cowered. There were times that they were able to overtake him and tried to take his life. He was near death more than once. He even spent time in prison for a while. This man stayed faithful to the cause for which he fought for many years. Finally they would take his life in service to his commander in chief. He never regretted doing anything that he had done. What an example he is to each of us. The army he served in was God's army. His commander in chief was the Almighty God who created and rules the world. His name: Paul, an apostle, though at one time he had been known as Saul of Tarsus. At the end of his life he could say, "For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8, in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NASB). When I come to the end of my sojourn on this earth, I hope I can say the same things as Paul did. Don't we all?Paul never let anything hinder him from serving the God he loved. He never allowed the hardships of life, the people who opposed him or selfish desires to get in his way. He was faithful to the end of his life.Paul gives us an example to follow. A veteran of many battles and yet, God's man to the very end. We thank him for this example and pray that we can live our lives for our Master.
