A 16-year drought was ended Friday night with the Indians’ decisive win over the Prairie Lea Indians, securing the 2012 District Championship! The Indians’ started off strong with Burnam Sloan recovering Trey Shan-non’s onside kick to begin the game. The Indians drove the ball and Sloan scored with 8:05 on the clock. Stephen Austermann’s PAT was good. Michael Blythe recovered a Prairie Lea fumble, setting up an E.J. Borchers touchdown. Austermann’s PAT brought the Indians up 16-0. Shannon recovered the following onside kick, leading to Borchers’ next touchdown and Auster-mann’s PAT. With 1:13 left in the quarter Borchers and Auster-mann scored their third touchdown and PAT of the game. With :35 remaining on the clock Sloan recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Austermann’s PAT gave the Indians a 40-0 lead. The second quarter found Borchers in the end zone with 7:40 and 4:35 remaining. With Austermann’s PAT, the Indians led 54-0. The defense held Prairie Lea to only one first down with 4:11 remaining in the half. Austermann recovered a Prairie Lea fumble with 4:06 remaining. Robert Brewer found the end zone with 3:22 remaining, and Austermann’s PAT was good. The Indians kneeled the ball in their final possession to end the game with a 62-0 victory. Thank you to the many who traveled the almost 300 mile round trip to Prairie Lea, as the fans once again outnumbered the home team’s fans. The Indians have a bye this week as they prepare for Bi-District. They will play either Mullin or Blanket, who play this week. The JH Indians closed out their season with a win over Rochelle Thursday night. The Hornets got on the clock first with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter. J.D. Bell recovered a Hornet fumble as the first quarter clock expired. Kellen Everett scored the Indians first touchdown in the second quarter. The Indians’ elected to run in the extra point and Everett scored, giving the Indians a 7-6 lead. With 1:24 remaining Everett scored again and Bell scored the extra point, putting the Indians up 14-6. With 2:12 remaining in the game the Hornets scored a touchdown. Their attempt to kick a PAT to tie the game was unsuccessful. The Indians closed out the game with an exciting 14-12 win. Congratulations on a 7-1 season, JH Indians! The Lady Indians kicked off their basketball season with a scrimmage against Marble Falls Faith Academy and Johnson City on Tuesday night. The Lady Indians first went up against 2A Johnson City. The two teams ran a 15 minute continuous clock followed by an 8:00 live quarter. The Lady Indians came out on top. Next, the Lady Indians took on the Lady Flames with the same scrimmage format. The Flames ended up with the win, but the Lady Indians showed great teamwork and promise of an exciting season to come. The Lady Indians will travel to Priddy on Tuesday to scrimmage the Lady Pirates. Congratulations to Laci Moreno on a successful race at the Region 4 cross country meet on Saturday.
