Thursday, November 8, 2012 • Posted November 8, 2012

The first meeting of the Utilities/Street committee was held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. The Members of the Committee were appointed by the city council. Those in attendance were: Alice Jane Allen, Gene Stewart, Dora Miller, Larry Shivener, Javiar Baez, and Carey Amthor. City staff present were Stan Weik, Gale Ivy, Eric Morgan, Luis Rios, and Scott Glaze, including Mayor Ken Jordan and Alderman Mark Amthor. Also in attendance were Allen Phillips and Ken Martin from the engineering firm of Jacob and Martin. Prior to the meeting, a meal of fajitas with all the trimmings was enjoyed by everyone. Mayor Jordan welcomed everyone and thanked them for their participation. Mr. Jordan discussed the goals of the committee: assess streets and infrastructure of all streets; explore funding for utilities and streets, review traffic flow, prioritize streets, prioritize utilities, and recommendations of type and schedule of funding. Each member introduced themselves and gave a brief summary of their backgrounds. Ken Martin and Allen Phillips from Jacob and Martin will be the lead engineers assisting the Committee. This company has worked with the City on several successful projects over the years. Mr. Martin thanked everyone and commended the citizens of San Saba for their interest in improving the community. Mr. Martin will work on preparing digital maps of the streets/utilities for the committ-ee’s review. The meetings will be held on the 4th Monday of the month with the next one being November 26. All citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the scheduled meetings. There will not be a meeting in December. Each member was asked to drive the streets of the town and do an inventory of which streets are a priority. City Manager Weik also asked the committee members to solicit comments from fellow citizens and bring those comments to the meeting. At the November meeting, the committee members will take a bus ride to survey the condition of city streets.
