Thursday, November 8, 2012 • Posted November 8, 2012

Lynn Hamrick, Chairman of the recently formed San Saba Pro Rodeo Association, received word last week from Jerry P. Hill, Executive Director of the UPRA, that San Saba Pro Rodeo Days 2012 has been selected from hundreds of rodeos as a finalist for the 2012 United Professional Rodeo Association "Rodeo of the Year." The San Saba Rodeo featured the Flying C Rodeo Co. with West Huggins, Announcer and Becky Frazier, Secretary. West and Becky have both been selected as Announcer and Secretary of the Year and will be at the UPRA Finals in Sulpher Springs, TX, November 16th, 17th, and 18th as the Announcer and Secretary. The Rodeo of the Year will be announced at the banquet on the 18th. The nominations and voting comes from the contestants, and apparently the 2012 San Saba Rodeo was considered top rodeo.Plans are underway for the 2013 Rodeo scheduled for May 31st and June 1st, with Flying C Rodeo Company as Producer, Gizmo McCracken, Rodeo Funnyman, has already submitted his contract, the Six White Horses of Abilene have committed, along with the Cook-Off, Tejano Night, Fun Time Carnival, and lots more entertainment. Moving the Parade time in 2012 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday was successful in kicking off the revamped Rodeo, and will remain the same for 2013.The Rodeo Committee consists of:Chairman - Lynn HamrickAsst. Chairman - Brad WilliamsArena Director - Neal AlexanderSecretary - Sissy WilliamsConcessions - Elmo DavisParade Chairman - Sandy McHorseP.R. Manager - Tony GuidroSigns and Ticket Sales - Tracy and Colleen WomackThe committee would like to thank all of the support from the community and volunteers who helped keep the 74 year tradition going. The funds raised from the San Saba Pro Rodeo Days will be going back into the community through the young people, starting in January with the Stock Show. Committee members will soon start the kick-off organization of sponsors, etc. for 2013, so when you see these members out scurrying around, you'll know they're gearing up for the 75th Annual 2013 San Saba Rodeo Days. Help us with another succuessful Rodeo, and hopes for another "Rodeo of the Year" nomination! The 2012 Rodeo had only 2 months preparation, so no telling what we can do with a full year to prepare.
